Carlos's eyes swept down from her face, fixing on a spot further down.
Mikayla followed his gaze to her V-neck office attire. It wasn't see-through, but Carlos's stare was so blatant that it felt like he was undressing her with his eyes.
"Carlos, you..." Mikayla clenched her jaw, her ears flushing red as she recalled last night when Carlos's hands hadn't been behaving.
"Mika, I didn't imply anything. Let's eat. It's getting late," Carlos said with a nonchalant shrug as he scooped up his oatmeal.
Mikayla noticed the time after Carlos's prompt, and indeed, it was almost time to go.
After finishing breakfast, Carlos drove Mikayla to her office.
During the ride, Mikayla sat in the passenger seat.
"Hey, what happened to Josiah?" she asked. She hadn't seen him since their wedding, and it seemed like he had vanished.
"He's between jobs at the moment! He'll resume work after I'm gone," Carlos mentioned as if it was no big deal.
"Is that even possible?" Mikayla questioned.
It seemed like Carlos could make Josiah come or not come to work with just a word.
"You'll understand the reasons later as you're so smart!" Carlos said with a knowing smile.
Carlos parked the car at the Salvatore Group's main entrance.
"There you go again, being all cryptic!" Mikayla said to Carlos, unbuckling her seat belt, stepping out of the car, and adding as she closed the door, "Oh, and you don't need to bring lunch. I'll probably be swamped."
"Got it! Wrap up early, and I'll pick you up after work to head to Lorenzo's," Carlos replied before driving away.
Mikayla was left standing there, feeling a mix of emotions.
Truth be told, she had expected days like this since their marriage. It was just a tough emotional barrier to overcome. There were moments of deep connection when she felt it physically. She was keenly aware of his desire.
Yet, Carlos always restrained himself, mindful of her still-healing foot, never pushing for more.
Lately, she realized she had been somewhat inattentive to his feelings.
"Ms. Salvatore, you're in for the day!" Patricia patted Mikayla on the shoulder, her grin as bright as can be.
The unexpected tap gave Mikayla a little jump.
"Yep!" Mikayla turned, walking alongside Patricia into the Salvatore Group's office building.
"Ms. Salvatore, may I ask where you guys went for your honeymoon?" Patricia was super curious. Ever since Mikayla's wedding, they'd been guessing she must've gone someplace fancy and romantic for her honeymoon.
Mikayla's world-class, luxurious wedding four days ago was something way out of their league.
Mikayla swiped her card and entered the company, looking at the bubbly Patricia and offering a smile. "We didn't go anywhere, so no need to be jealous."
"What? How could you not have gone anywhere?" Patricia hit the elevator call button.
"Not a big deal," Mikayla said as she stepped into the elevator.
It was the height of the morning rush, and the elevator filled up with workers. Upon spotting Mikayla, they all greeted her respectfully. "Morning, Ms. Salvatore!"
Mikayla gave a slight nod.
As the elevator stopped at different floors, people got off until it reached the 17th floor, the marketing department. Mikayla and Patricia stepped off and made their way to their department.
"Ms. Salvatore's back at work!" the team exclaimed, excited to see her.
