Chapter 39
Conrad’s hand halted mid–air, hovering over the food. Then, he resumed eating with practiced calm, thinking he’d just heard the most absurd joke. If Mikayla found other manufacturers, she wouldn’t have any reason to stick with Northill. The idea of more orders was ridiculous.
The room grew tense, almost as if time had stopped.
A sly old fox indeed thought Mikayla. She handed some documents to Patricia, who then passed them to Conrad. “You might want to take a look at this first. Mr. Ziegler.”
Having eaten his fill, Conrad set down his fork and opened the sealed file. Instantly, his indifferent expression changed, and his pupils widened in
shock.
His indifferent expression shifted instantly upon seeing its contents, his pupils dilating in shock. Panicked, he quickly shoved the materials back into the envelope, hands trembling as if he had touched something terrifying. He couldn’t bear to look at them again,
“How… How did you get these? His voice quivered with tear, starkly contrasting his earlier demeanor. He thought he had been discreet.
“Secrets don’t stay hidden forever, Mikayla remarked.
To Conrad, the once harmless–looking Mikayla now seemed to be systematically tearing down his defenses. Thinking it over, he finally found that Mikayla had been protecting his pride all along. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have bothered to set up this meal to cater to his tastes. With the evidence she had, a private meeting would have been enough to force his hand. This elaborate setup was just to let him bow out with some dignity. Looks like I’ve really underestimated her, he thought, feeling deflated. It took him a while to collect himself.
“Rest assured, I won’t spread this information. I sincerely hope you can assist Salvatore Group this time, Mr. Ziegler. If we succeed, we won’t forget your support and the promised orders will be fulfilled. If we fail, you won’t suffer any loss, Mikayla reassured.
“Do I have any grounds to object?” Conrad managed a genuine smile. “Ms. Salvatore, your actions tell me you’ll go far in the business world. Don’t forget about me when you do,”
“You’re too kind, Mr. Ziegler. Thanks for your support,” Mikayla said.
After the meal. Patricia, who had been drinking on Mikayla’s behalf, hurried to the restroom, vomiting violently.
“Ms. Salvatore, what’s in those documents?” Patricia asked, her face pale. She had prepared for failure but was surprised by the turnaround, which strengthened her loyalty to Mikayla.
“Don’t be so curious. Mikayla said, then turned to Quinnlyn “Quinnlyn, get some oatmeal for Patricia. I’ll have Josiah take you both home to rest No need to go back to the office today. Just charge it to the company card.”
“Okay. Thanks, Ms. Salvatore, Quinnlyn said, helping Patricia as they left.
Mikayla let out a sigh of relief, glancing at the documents on the table that scared Conrad.
Ever since his marriage, Conrad had enjoyed a blissful relationship with his wife and their young daughter. They were the picture of a happy family. However, this perfect life was disrupted when a beautiful and ambitious young woman joined his factory. At first, they had a godfather- goddaughter relationship, but over time, she quickly turned from being his colleague to his lover.
