Reclaiming the CEO's Heart novel Chapter 175

Chapter 175 Pretend to Be Subservient

The ashtray was heavy, and she had some difficulty holding it in one hand.

She even speculated in her heart whether the blood flowing from Jacob's head would splash onto her face if this ashtray fell.

When she realized that she had such an idea, Avery was startled.

At this moment, Jacob turned his head and looked at her; their gazes met.

Before he spoke, Avery quickly said, "Why did you smoke so much?"

The moment Jacob saw her, his first thought was that Avery wanted to use an ashtray to commit murder against him. Upon hearing her say this, he dispelled his doubts.

He maintained a composed expression with a cold demeanor and replied, "Is it any of your concern?"

The contemptuous tone filled with disdain; Avery put down the ashtray, deciding that if she were to take action next time, she would need a sharper tool.

She suppressed her displeasure and reached out to pull at Jacob's hem, whispering, "That... what I said this morning was too much. I apologize for it."

Jacob's gaze landed on Avery's face. Her originally fair complexion appeared somewhat pale under the cold light. She had no makeup on, presenting a clean and natural look.

Though beautiful, it seemed to lack vitality.

Yet she was undoubtedly someone to be cherished.

In the past, Jacob couldn't resist when she tugged at his clothes and acted coquettish. Whenever she did this, he was willing to take off even the stars in the sky for her.

"Where's the food?" One sentence helped ease the tension between them.

"Here it is." Avery followed this opportunity and quickly pushed the dishes in front of him.

There was a heart-shaped tamagoyaki, teriyaki chicken curry rice, vegetable salad, and a bowl of soup. They were simple home-cooked dishes but perfectly suited to his taste.

It had been a long time since Jacob had eaten her homemade bento. His gaze lingered on the heart-shaped tamagoyaki.

"Have you eaten?"

Avery thought about how she ate in the kitchen until she hiccuped, and with lowered eyelids, she said softly, "Not yet; I'm afraid the food will get cold."

Jacob pulled her onto his lap. "Let's eat together."

She pretended to be at a loss. "But..."

A spoonful of soup was brought to her lips, and Avery sipped it, sticking out her tongue. "It's hot..."

Looking at her teary-eyed and pitiful face, like a helpless little puppy, Jacob blew on it and fed her again. "Not hot now."

"Oh." She obediently drank it, hoping she wouldn't hiccup.

Just as she thought that, an uncontrollable sound erupted from her throat.
