Chapter 25
“Where did you find this?” he asked me.
“Some guy dropped it off” I told him, his eyes narrowed at me.
“A guy?”
“yeah, he was friendly he just said to give it to you” I said nodding.
“at my house?” he questioned, I nodded, I didn’t like the look on his face. He tore the envelope opened peeking inside not taking whatever it was out. I caught a small whiff of blood. The smell was metallic salty, I wrinkled my nose. He let out another low growl that vibrated through my chest sending shivers down my spine.
The door opened and about 6 very large men walked in followed by Michael who was breathing heavily like he had just run a few miles.
“Hi Michael” I greeted cheerfully.
“Hey K-” he was cut off by Dez’s intimidating low growl causing him to look at Dez’s feet quietly. I felt the need to reach out and hit Dez or ask him what his problem was.
“I want security doubled, I want it at my house and I want it tripled wherever Kendal is at all times” he said lowly speaking to Michael quietly like I wasn’t even there. What is going on? I looked at the large men standing against the walls. Why was Dez so suddenly- I caught sight of the envelope now sitting on his desk. I reached for it and Dez stopped in mid–sentence catching my wrist his eyes flicking to me.
“What’s in it?” I asked now that I had his attention.
“Nothing”
“What’s going on?” I asked.
“Go sit down” he told me lowly motioning to the chair I usually sat in.
“No, tell me what’s-”
“Kendal” he said warningly, giving my wrist a small squeeze.
“Dez” I replied stubbornly, staring at him, he caught my eye and I refused to look away. I could feel him take it as a challenge, but I wasn’t breaking eye contact. He looked away and I tried not to smirk in triumph.

Chapter 25
“Mathias would you please escort my mate into the hallway” He said, I ignored the butterflies from Dez calling me his mate, and my jaw dropped.
“Dez-” I protested, he wasn’t just going to shove me into the hallway. I wanted to know what was going on. The largest of the men stepped forward. He had a buzz out, and looked intimidating as hell. He stood tall, maybe 6,4, and he was bulky, he wasn’t as large as Dez but he was still huge.
“Don’t touch me” I warned taking a step back into Dez, I could feel his body heat behind me, and my skin was tingling with the electricity I felt when he was close. He stopped and looked up to Dez probably asking permission to forcibly remove me from here. I knew I wouldn’t be able to fight him but I wasn’t leaving without throwing a very large tantrum.
I watched him take a step back obediently, I almost scoffed. What does Dez have his person pets he just orders around now? I guess Dez sent them into the hallway because they all filed out, leaving me alone
with him, I turned around facing him taking a few steps back from his close proximity.
I crossed my arms over my chest, trying to contain my excitement from just being near Dez. I looked at him expectantly.
“Don’t be difficult, you can stay only if you promise to keep your mouth shut” he said giving me a pointed
look.
“What? No, tell me what’s goi-”
“Fine then your guards are waiting for you in hallway, you can wait there until I’m done with M-”
“Guards?” I questioned ignoring his look from being interrupted. I gathered that he wasn’t interrupted
often.
“Yes, guards” he said almost smugly, like he was expecting me to argue.
“I don’t need guards, I can protect myself”
“Kendal, you’re going to have guards with you when I’m not there, this isn’t up for negotiation” he said firmly, I could see he had made his decision and nothing I said would change his mind.
“Dez, why do I need guards?” I asked, he looked at me for a minute, his jaw clenching slightly and his posture stiffening.
“for your protection” he finally settled on.
