"Do you mean... it's not over yet?"
"Yes."
"Who is this person?"
"I don't know, but I think... that person is right by your side."
Sophie slowly wandered to one side of the living room, taking in the cheerful crowd. She didn't want to doubt anyone here.
Could it be Jenna? Adler? Was it Reece, Julian, or Booker? Her eyes flitted to Odie and Jonah. Maybe them? Then they landed on Elodie and Griffin. Or perhaps... them? Could it be Harold? Or... Colby?
Sophie trusted everyone here deeply. But if one of them was the culprit, what would she do?
She hung up the call. Adler and Jenna waved her over to join them. Sophie tucked away her phone, put on a smile, and settled into her seat.
While everyone else was caught up in lively chatter, Sophie's thoughts weighed heavy. Reece, who'd been mingling and having a good time, noticed her mood and paused.
When the drinks were flowing, Reece pulled Sophie aside. The cool breeze outside was a welcome relief.
"Was that a call from James?" Reece asked.
"How did you know?" Sophie turned to Reece, saw him looking into the distance, and realized, "You're like another me in this world. After working together for so long, of course, you understand me."
Everyone here was a friend, but Reece had always gotten her. He was her first trusted partner besides Colby.
For the past two years, Reece had been by her side, never once thinking of leaving S Corporation.
"You've changed, Sophie."

Enjoying the story, to much victimising Sophie, they could at least try to target others. Hope at some point Sophie comes clean and forgives James and explain her view of loving the boy James was. Just so they both learn and move on. Really needs to be some consequences for the instigators instead of being let go. Sandy needs to see Vanessa is using her as a cover, and Sandy needs to wake up to herself, or be held responsible by her father for alienating the people she was supposed to make contact with. Hope the reporter brother is keeping an eye on what Vanessa and Odie are up to, and that he has he’s own justice in store. Hope he becomes like Reese a good partner. Hope James lives and finds he’s HEA. Need to put Nicole in prison , no release and several lifetimes , with all the evidence on the crimes she’s committed just to get her out of the way guilt free. More about what’s up with Gordon....
