At Harold's birthday party, the guest list was crammed with the scions of wealthy families, all of whom had their eyes fixed on Sophie.
"Isn't that James' new bride? So Harold has been waiting for her."
"I heard James and she are on the rocks, he's got a mistress, and they're likely heading for divorce."
"Could it be that Mr. Harold has taken a fancy to her? What is Harold thinking?"
Murmurs rippled quietly throughout the room.
Harold, spotting Sophie, was delighted and seemed oblivious to the whispers. He quickly ascended the stairs and gallantly offered his hand to her. "My lady, if you please."
Sophie chuckle at Harold's childish gesture. As she reached out her hand, the grand doors of the Aldridge estate burst open, and a row of men in black suits entered, forming two lines. Colt strode through them towards the gathering.
Harold turned around, his brow furrowing at the sight. "Who let you in?" He stepped in front of Sophie, shielding her.
The guests fell silent, recognizing Colt, the notorious right-hand man of James. This was sure to stir up drama.
"My apologies, Mr. Harold, but Mr. Burke has sent me to bring his wife home," Colt stated, looking towards Sophie. "Ma'am, Mr. Burke is quite concerned about you. Please, come with us."
"And if I refuse?"
After a moment of silence, Colt replied, "That would be unfortunate."

Enjoying the story, to much victimising Sophie, they could at least try to target others. Hope at some point Sophie comes clean and forgives James and explain her view of loving the boy James was. Just so they both learn and move on. Really needs to be some consequences for the instigators instead of being let go. Sandy needs to see Vanessa is using her as a cover, and Sandy needs to wake up to herself, or be held responsible by her father for alienating the people she was supposed to make contact with. Hope the reporter brother is keeping an eye on what Vanessa and Odie are up to, and that he has he’s own justice in store. Hope he becomes like Reese a good partner. Hope James lives and finds he’s HEA. Need to put Nicole in prison , no release and several lifetimes , with all the evidence on the crimes she’s committed just to get her out of the way guilt free. More about what’s up with Gordon....
