Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James) novel Chapter 1824

"Mr. Gordon, what's been happening lately...?" Rick wasn't really the one to ask this question. But over the past few days, Mr. Gordon had been keeping a noticeable distance from Ms. Sophie.

"Do you think I've been less attentive to her?" Gordon asked.

"Not exactly..." Rick couldn't quite put his finger on it. Mr. Gordon had always shown deep care for Ms. Sophie, but lately, it felt different somehow.

Leaning back in his office chair, Gordon said, "I don't want her to see me as just a brother, you know?"

Rick was caught off guard by this. For years, everyone had assumed Sophie and Gordon's engagement was set in stone. They all knew that once Sophie graduated, she'd marry Gordon. Even Sophie herself seemed to accept it. No one had ever questioned it. They were all quietly waiting for the big day, which wasn't too far off now. But here was Gordon, throwing a curveball.

"Mr. Gordon, Ms. Sophie has always depended on you," Rick pointed out.

"You said it—depended," Gordon replied. He had no plans to force Sophie into anything, not even loving him. "I'll give her time to think, and if she doesn't want this engagement, I'll respect her wishes."

Rick was surprised by Gordon's words. How could Ms. Sophie not like him? Everyone knew that in Ms. Sophie's heart, no one was more important than Mr. Gordon.

Over at the Grand Hotel, Harold and Sophie had been waiting for Jenna for quite a while, and Patty had already kicked things off. The place was filled with familiar faces from their circle, plus some of Sophie and Harold's high school buddies.

Frowning, Harold checked his watch, "Is Jenna ever going to show up? Maybe try calling her again?"

"I have, but she's not picking up," Sophie said, shaking her head. She was probably stuck in traffic.
