Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James) novel Chapter 1896

Sophie watched Harold, thinking there must be something off with him. How else could he eat like that?

"Ms. Sophie, your place setting," the maid said, setting the cutlery in front of her.

But Sophie had lost her appetite. She waved it off, her eyes glued to Harold as he tore through his meal.

"When's the last time you ate?" she asked.

"Skipped lunch today," Harold mumbled between bites, reminding Sophie of their spat earlier. Harold hadn't had a single bite at lunch. For a growing teenager, skipping lunch was no small deal.

Rick, the butler, told the maid, "Prepare Mr. Gordon's dinner. He'll eat upstairs."

"Yes, sir."

The maid quickly went to get Gordon's dinner ready. Sophie remembered just a few minutes ago, the maid had said neither of them wanted dinner.

Sophie sensed some juicy gossip. She quietly sidled up to Rick, asking, "Rick, did my brother and Harold have a fight? Or did Harold tick him off?"

"What makes you think that?" Rick replied.

"Why else would they be acting so weird today?"

Earlier, when Sophie tried to see her brother, Rick had stopped her at the door.

Clearly, there was something going on she wasn't in on.

Rick, seeing her curiosity, couldn't help but smile. "That's a secret between Mr. Gordon and Mr. Harold. I can't spill the beans."

"What secret can't you tell me?" Sophie frowned. "My brother and Harold never keep secrets from me."

"This might be the only one," Rick said with a knowing smile.

The next morning, Sophie and Harold got into the car together.

Noticing that Gordon hadn't arranged for separate cars, Sophie asked as they settled in, "How did you pull that off? How'd my brother agree so easily?"

"Secret."

"Another secret?"

Sophie furrowed her brows. "Yesterday, Rick said you two had a secret. I didn't buy it. What's so secretive that I can't know?"
