Since none of this stuff could win his father's approval, Adler figured he might as well chuck it all. It didn't matter to him anyway.
Adler decided to live life on his own terms, embracing a rebellious streak. He found a kind of thrill in stirring up trouble at school, landing himself in detention more often than not, and constantly challenging authority. The school was practically on speed dial with his home, but his father never bothered to show up.
Feeling unchallenged and bored, Adler resorted to playing games during class, his antics getting bolder by the day. Yet, because he was a whiz in his studies, the teachers mostly turned a blind eye.
He spent his school days tinkering with a laptop, and astonishingly, while still in elementary school, he managed to make his first tidy sum of money. He'd developed a software program that brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Still, his father remained indifferent.
As middle school loomed on the horizon, Adler crossed paths with Jenna for the first time. It was at the Costello estate. Lennon had lost his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. The Tredgold family had been steadfast allies to the Costellos for generations, always at their service. Because of this loyalty, Lennon decided to take Adler under his wing.
Life at the Costello estate was dull but still preferable to the chilly, unwelcoming vibe of the Tredgold home. When Jenna showed up, she was tall and slender, her eyes dark and calm, with an undercurrent of something fierce.
Adler had a knack for sensing such vibes. He immediately suspected the old man had done something shady to harm her family. Otherwise, how could such a delicate-looking girl carry such intensity? If the old man was going to pull something, why leave any witnesses? Wasn't that just asking for trouble?
With a cheeky grin, Adler sauntered up to Jenna and said, "Hey, new here? Did your whole family get wiped out too? What a coincidence, mine did!"
Jenna shot him a frosty glance.
Soon enough, the butler hurried over, "Mr. Alec, please watch your words. This is Ms. Jenna!"
"Ms. Jenna? Who's Ms. Jenna?" Adler frowned, then it clicked. Oh, the Dennis family was linked to the Costellos.
"Hey, what's your name?" Adler asked, trailing behind Jenna.
But Jenna ignored him, walking on with confidence.
"Hey! Can you talk?” Adler pressed on, still tagging along.

Enjoying the story, to much victimising Sophie, they could at least try to target others. Hope at some point Sophie comes clean and forgives James and explain her view of loving the boy James was. Just so they both learn and move on. Really needs to be some consequences for the instigators instead of being let go. Sandy needs to see Vanessa is using her as a cover, and Sandy needs to wake up to herself, or be held responsible by her father for alienating the people she was supposed to make contact with. Hope the reporter brother is keeping an eye on what Vanessa and Odie are up to, and that he has he’s own justice in store. Hope he becomes like Reese a good partner. Hope James lives and finds he’s HEA. Need to put Nicole in prison , no release and several lifetimes , with all the evidence on the crimes she’s committed just to get her out of the way guilt free. More about what’s up with Gordon....
Excellent novel!...
