Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James) novel Chapter 1913

I guess I was courting trouble back then, or at least that's what I thought. That evening, after Griffin took a shower, I helped him shave. I had braced myself to see someone who looked like a down-and-out beggar. But as I got a better look at Griffin’s face, I realized my mistake. He was actually more handsome than a freshly-shaven Robinson Crusoe.

Aunt Mary was always a bit of a hard case, but maybe it was Griffin's good looks that softened her up. Even though she was over fifty, she surprisingly had a change of heart. Griffin could stay, but with one condition — he had to work shirtless in the fields every day. I could almost hear Aunt Mary’s scheming from a mile away. And honestly, it made sense; at her age, having a nice view was a natural craving.

From then on, Griffin started rising earlier than the rooster and staying up later than the dog. He was my rock during those tough times in the countryside. Griffin was amazing in every way. Although he wasn’t much of a talker, he was gentle, with a heart to match. He’d even spare a bite of his own meal to feed the small animals around.

There was just one snag: his knees were way too soft. He'd drop to them at the slightest hint of trouble. If he sensed I was upset, he’d kneel. If he thought he’d messed up, he’d kneel. It took me nearly six months to break him of this habit. Even though he didn’t kneel as often anymore, his submissive nature was deeply ingrained.

He never talked about his past, and I never pressed him. Over time, I got used to having him around, like he was my own personal guardian angel. We faced danger together more times than I could count. Or rather, he faced it head-on to protect me.

Then one day, Joseph mentioned expanding the business to Devonport. When I brought it up with Griffin, his expression turned odd. That day, he seemed different. Curious about what was going on, I finally learned about his past that night. Griffin had always been ashamed, worried I’d look down on him. He felt like his way of making a living lacked dignity. To the upper crust, he was just another loyal lapdog. My heart went out to Griffin, and I decided I’d stand by him.

He wanted to meet Colby, so I made it happen. Only by heading to Devonport could Griffin see Colby. During this time, I also crossed paths with Sophie. In Joseph’s memories, Sophie had died from a hemorrhage in a past life, but now she was alive and had even founded the S Corporation, which wasn’t supposed to exist. This confirmed that Sophie had been reborn too. We were kindred spirits.

Oh, and on my road to success, I met someone important. His name was Gordon. How to describe Gordon? I’d say he was quite the mysterious type. He had plenty of tricks up his sleeve and a dark side to boot. Yet even someone like him had people he cared about. He wasn’t big on small talk, but I had a hunch he didn't mind me, possibly because Sophie and I were cut from the same cloth. Truth be told, Gordon was definitely my kind of guy.
