James was deeply concerned that Sophie might misunderstand him. Furrowing his brow, he explained, "I just..."
"I know what you mean. I was just teasing you; don't take it so seriously." Sophie wore a smile, but her eyes betrayed a lack of amusement.
James was willing to introduce her to some key players in the business world, and she was more than happy to accept. Whether it would cut corners for her, she couldn't be sure, but at least she'd become a familiar face.
Sensing that Sophie wasn't upset, James finally felt relieved. "Colt is waiting for us downstairs."
James extended his hand to Sophie, signaling his readiness to leave. Sophie understood the gesture but didn't place her hand in his.
"You go ahead," she suggested. "Just text me the location."
"Are we not going together?"
"I'd like to change my outfit." Sophie spread her arms wide, showcasing her simple attire. She hadn't even put on makeup before leaving the house that day.
James chuckled, "You look great in anything. There's no need to dress up."
"But how can that be? We're meeting important people, after all. I should dress nicely to complement your handsome and dashing appearance."
This brought a shallow smile to James' face. "Alright, then I'll have Colt escort you."
"No, thanks." Sophie quickly refused, "I can manage on my own."
James watched Sophie for a moment, smiled softly, and said, "Just be safe on your way, then."
"Will do." Sophie turned and left James' office.
James watched her leave and sank into thought.

Enjoying the story, to much victimising Sophie, they could at least try to target others. Hope at some point Sophie comes clean and forgives James and explain her view of loving the boy James was. Just so they both learn and move on. Really needs to be some consequences for the instigators instead of being let go. Sandy needs to see Vanessa is using her as a cover, and Sandy needs to wake up to herself, or be held responsible by her father for alienating the people she was supposed to make contact with. Hope the reporter brother is keeping an eye on what Vanessa and Odie are up to, and that he has he’s own justice in store. Hope he becomes like Reese a good partner. Hope James lives and finds he’s HEA. Need to put Nicole in prison , no release and several lifetimes , with all the evidence on the crimes she’s committed just to get her out of the way guilt free. More about what’s up with Gordon....
