Upon arriving at Flint Manor, Grandma Flint's expression brightened with delight. She then took my hand and held it tightly, saying, "You know, Ric often told me about your beauty, and he even showed me photos of you! But you're even more beautiful than the photos he showed me!"
I smiled bashfully and asked, "Eric actually told you that I was beautiful?"
Grandma Flint nodded firmly, saying, "Oh, absolutely! He's spoken highly of you to me more than once."
I looked over at Eric after hearing that. He didn't reciprocate my gaze, though. He instead turned his head away, hiding his facial expression.
Upon seeing his reaction, Grandma Flint laughed heartily and said, "Oh, look at him! Ric is actually blushing!"
I could see from a distance that Eric's ears had flushed to an intense crimson, nearly resembling the hue of blood.
Eric, appearing seemingly flustered, glanced around and asked, "Where's Uncle Brian and the others?"
Upon hearing the mention of Brian, Grandma Flint's expression immediately turned grim. She then snorted disdainfully and said, "Who knows what they're plotting this time? I've already told them countless times that Jae would be coming tonight, but they've disregarded my words entirely."
Having said that, Grandma Flint's visage flushed, and her breathing grew rapid. I quickly patted her hand and rubbed her back, saying softly, "It's alright, Grandma Flint. You shouldn't get so worked up over such a matter. Your well-being is the most important thing, after all."
Grandma Flint sighed deeply and held my hand, looking apologetic as she said, "They're trying to make things hard for you, Jae. If they act out later, don't hold back on my account. I won't hold it against you."
It was then that shrill laughter rang out from the doorway. I turned and spotted three people standing there, engaged in lively conversation. They were, as I surmised, Eric's second uncle, Brian, his second aunt, Karen, and his cousin, Joshua. It was obvious that the laugh I heard earlier came from Karen.
Upon spotting me, Karen walked over and exclaimed, "I'm so sorry for being late! You see, something unexpectedly came up, and we got held up because of it."
Though Karen offered an apology, there wasn't even a hint of guilt in her expression. Rather, it was suffused with an air of provocation.
