Sophia smiled faintly, "Mr. Stark, do I look like I'm joking? You have said that we have been partners for years and things have never gone wrong before. Why did something go wrong this time? I can assure you that we didn't send you shoddy goods, so I don't know where the problem is."
Mr. Stark stared at her and she didn't seem to be lying, which meant she didn't cause the problem.
He looked back at Jessica subconsciously.
Jessica hurriedly said, "Mr. Stark, are you suspecting me?"
"Did I say that?"
Mr. Stark had intended to ask her, since she had been in charge of the project. If Sophia didn't cause the problem, he planned to ask Jessica if she had any idea.
But Jessica's attitude seemed strange. Moreover, Sophia seemed to be implying something.
"Jessica, I trusted you with the project regardless of what you've done before. You can't let me down."
Jessica became anxious, "Mr. Stark, what are you talking about? How could I let you down? Sophia must have set you a trap!"
Sophia didn't say anything.
Mr. Stark seemed to have guessed something.
"Ms. Lawson didn't say anything ill about you and you were here. How could you accuse her like that?"
It wasn't until then that Jessica knew what Sophia wanted to do.
For so long, she hadn't won Sophia once. But Jessica didn't admit defeat. She always thought that Sophia only beat her because of her family.
Except for the gap in the family background, she didn't feel inferior to Sophia in any way, so she tried every way to prove herself better than Sophia.
But today, she fell into Sophia's trap.
Mr. Stark continued, "Jessica, you'd better prove that you have nothing to do with this. Otherwise, not even I can help you."
Although he had the most shares in the Cannon Group, if Jessica kept making mistakes, he couldn't shield her from the rest shareholders.
Even if he had to return a favor to that man, he couldn't indulge Jessica's tendency to cross the line again and again.
He stood up, "Ms. Lawson, I promise I'll give you an explanation."
"I trust you, Mr. Stark, since we are best partners."
Mr. Stark understood what she meant.
"Ms. Lawson, I need to leave now, but I'll give you a reply in three days."
"I'll be waiting."
Mr. Stark nodded and walked out.
At the entrance of the Skylane Group, Mr. Stark looked at Jessica, "Say it. Do you want me to investigate or do you want to resign to assume responsibility?"
Jessica knew that she couldn't hide it anymore, but she didn't want to leave like this.
Once she was gone, she would be of no use to Drake and he wouldn't help her get Drake anymore.
She couldn't let that happen!
"Mr. Stark, I've made a mistake. Please forgive me this time. I promise I won't do it again!"
Mr. Stark shook his head, "You should remember how many chances I've given you. I wouldn't have done that if I didn't owe that guy a favor."
"But you have to realize that I can't keep tolerating you. I don't want my company to be ruined by you."
