After picking up so many new skills from Molly, Alicia made up her mind: when Tyrone came home, she'd do her best to cheer him up. If he was happy, maybe their marriage could last a little longer.
But as the thought lingered, Alicia found herself frozen in place. Why, exactly, did she want to prolong this marriage?
Was it because she didn't want to separate from him?
She honestly didn't know anymore.
The doorbell rang.
Nicole stood at the entrance.
Wilma, clearly uneasy, glanced at Alicia. "Ma'am, just now... Mr. Lynch Sr. called and said Miss White is to stay here. I tried calling Mr. Tyrone, but his phone isn't connecting."
Wilma looked troubled; after all, Maddox was also her employer, and she didn't know how to refuse such a request.
Alicia was taken aback. Nicole was moving in? This was a clear message from the old man—he wanted Nicole to be Tyrone's wife.
Wilma hesitated at the door, uncertain, since Alicia hadn't given her permission to let Nicole in.
Nicole, no doubt, had gone to complain to Mr. Lynch Sr., who called again, this time demanding, "Put Alicia on the line."
His voice left no room for argument.
Alicia didn't dare refuse. She took the phone. "Grandfather..."
"Nicole has no one in Seaview City. She'll live with Tyrone from now on—it'll give them a chance to grow closer. Alicia, you know perfectly well why Tyrone married you. He promised you money, so you aren't being mistreated. Don't be greedy. If you've taken the money, you can't ask for more. Do you understand?"
The warning was sharp and cold.
Alicia stayed silent.
"If you really are pregnant, this marriage will last until the child is born. But if you're lying to me…" His angry huff came through the phone. "Think very carefully about the consequences."
