Alicia knew that once Tyrone left, chances were he wouldn’t be back tonight.

Serena certainly had her ways of keeping people busy.

Alicia didn’t blame Tyrone—she just felt a pang of sympathy for him. If it weren’t for his sense of obligation, he wouldn’t be so easily swept up in all this. But Serena really had saved his life once; walking away wasn’t an option, and Alicia understood that.

“I’ll come back and make dinner for you tonight,” Tyrone said, glancing at the time.

Alicia was caught off guard. It was already past four; if they wanted to eat by seven, that left less than two hours. Did Tyrone really think he’d be back in time?

Once he was gone, Alicia slumped onto the couch, feeling more disappointed than she cared to admit.

She didn’t expect Tyrone to make it back.

If Serena went to all this trouble, she definitely wouldn’t let Tyrone leave so soon.

It was from Melanie—a picture of Tyrone sitting at Serena’s bedside in the hospital.

Alicia didn’t reply, nor did she hold it against Melanie. After all, Melanie was Serena’s daughter; of course she’d take her mother’s side.

But a moment later, Melanie sent another message: My mom asked me to send you that picture.

Then, almost immediately, Melanie deleted the message.

Alicia stared at her phone, momentarily stunned. So Serena had meant for her to see it?

It was obvious: Serena wanted Tyrone all to herself.

Still, Alicia trusted Tyrone. Whatever he felt for Serena, it was gratitude—nothing more.

“Alicia, we’re having a graduation get-together tomorrow. Are you coming?” The class president messaged her.

Alicia hesitated. A class reunion?
