“I’m doing all of this for the sake of our family,” the old man sighed, his voice heavy with age. “When I’m gone, I don’t want to see you all turning against each other, brothers at each other’s throats.” His stooped figure looked frail, a shadow of the authority he once commanded.

Reginald, the butler, understood the old man’s worries. He sympathized with Tyrone too, but as a butler, there was little he could do.

He let out a quiet sigh, then gently guided the old man to a chair.

Vincent arrived soon after, politely taking a seat across from the old patriarch.

The old man’s eyes softened as he looked at Vincent. “Vincent, I heard you’re in Harboridge City to negotiate a business deal. As your elder, I thought you should come by the house for a visit.”

Vincent nodded, offering a faint smile. “My father asked me to send his regards, Grandfather.”

The old man nodded back. “I also heard you broke off the engagement with that girl from the Holloway family?”

Vincent hesitated for a moment before giving a brief nod.

“That Alicia—she’s been at your side for years. Did any real feelings develop between you?” the old man prodded gently.

“Grandfather, if you have something to say, just say it,” Vincent replied, standing up straighter. He had already guessed what the old man was planning before he even arrived.

Vincent disliked how blatantly the old man favored Easton, but he also knew he had played a part in causing it.

In Vincent’s eyes, Easton was no different from the other illegitimate sons his father had sired over the years.

“Tyrone just wants Alicia to give him a child,” the old man said, his gaze meaningful as it settled on Vincent. “But I don’t want Tyrone having a child before Easton reaches legal marrying age here in Harboridge. Alicia’s about to leave for Italy to study, while Tyrone has to manage Lynch Corporation. He’ll be busy, and they’ll hardly see each other. That kind of distance—well, it puts any relationship at risk, especially since you and Alicia already have a history together…”

The old man gestured for Reginald to bring over a folder. “This project—a partnership with an Italian company—Lynch Corporation is handing it over to Lawson & Co. That way, you’ll have reason to stay longer in Italy, spend more time with Alicia, let something develop between you again…”
