Right Person, Wrong Time novel Chapter 671

Chapter 671

Emily bit her lip, utterly torn. Of course, it didn't help that her tears couldn't stop falling when she saw Douglas standing there without saying a word in protest.

"It's not that he needs me, but I need him," she cried. Then, she tugged at her parents with both hands and pleaded, "Dad, Mom, stop it. Let's go."

Felicia felt distressed to see Emily behaving like this, so she said anxiously, "Em, what is going on?! Why are you allowing him to cheat on you?!"

Douglas took two steps forward, his eyes fell on Emily's face, and whispered, "I'm sorry."

Emily shook her head and smiled bleakly. "I said it back then. If you find a woman you like, we'll divorce."

He didn't reply to her words. Instead, he suggested faintly, "I'll entertain the guests first. You guys talk."

"Okay." She nodded slowly.

Felicia wanted to interrupt, but Emily held her back with a firm hand. She shook her head as tears fell down her cheeks like unthreaded pearls.

After he left, Jansen looked at Emily with searching eyes. There must be a reason why Emily defended him.

"Divorce? Em, tell us, what did you mean by that? What is going on?"

Emily covered her face and cried bitterly. Felicia felt heartbroken at her daughter's state, so she pulled her into her embrace and comforted her, "Oh, my dear. Please stop crying. We're here with you. You're safe."

Emily sobbed for a long time before finally regaining some semblance of composure. She wiped the tears off her face as she said firmly yet hoarsely, "Lucy is not Douglas' daughter."

Her face was flushed because of the intense crying session. Nonetheless, she felt relieved as she finally revealed the secret she had kept hidden for so many years.

Jansen and Felicia were aghast, especially Felicia. Her eyes widened in shock, and her face was filled with disbelief. Eventually, she stammered tremulously, "W-What did you say? Lucy is not Douglas' daughter?"

Emily sniffled as she parted her lips to speak. She worried her bottom lip but didn't know where to start. After she inhaled deeply, she slowly began, "Douglas married me because I saved him—"

Felicia was extremely bewildered. It took her a while to regain her composure, and she pressed for answers. "W-Who is her father then?!"

Emily lowered her head and bit the insides of her cheek before she spoke, "I-I don't know. I was drunk that night... When I woke up, that man had already left, and I became pregnant. To make matters worse, the doctor said that I would never be able to get pregnant again if I aborted the baby due to fetal malposition."

She never confided this to anyone, including Douglas.

Back then, she got pregnant out of wedlock. When she rescued Douglas, he learned about her pregnancy, and they married.

"I couldn't embarrass you, so I made Douglas marry me after saving him. Nothing has happened between us for so many years."

They never slept together. He spent most of his time in the office and would only occasionally come home to visit Lucy.

For Lucy, he was a good father. She was far from foolish, so she had already known about Whitney long ago. Still, she didn't expose their affair because she knew that Lucy needed a father.

"W-What you have done, silly girl!" Felicia wailed in despair.

She despised Douglas so much because Emily was pregnant before she got married. She thought that he married Emily because he coveted their fortune. This was the reason why they strongly disliked him and opposed their marriage.

Jansen was silent throughout Emily's recount of the actual situation. Never in all his years had he ever thought that things were like this between Emily and Douglas.

"Why didn't you tell us earlier?!" he asked sternly.
