Adam did not stay in the room for long. Once his warning had been delivered, he immediately went away.
Sasha was the only one left in the room. She was trembling with anger.
Why was everything she had done still not enough to make Colton stay by her side?
Why?!
She eventually calmed down. Today, she saw exactly how important Nicole was to him.
It seemed like her only choice was to make Nicole disappear.
However, she was currently powerless. Hence, she had to wait and plan.
Colton and Nicole looked into the surveillance footage during the murders of the Clancies.
According to the footage, all three bullets were shot at the same time.
They also came from the high-rise building directly across the road and from somewhere higher than the apartment.
Not even the greatest sniper in the world could have killed them all at the same time. Thus, they suspected there were three snipers involved.
At that thought, they looked into the surveillance footage from the other building.
After a few rounds of elimination with the help of the security guards, they finally narrowed down their list of suspects to three men who had arrived with luggage bags.
A sniper rifle was a big weapon, so it needed to be taken apart and stored in a container.
On that day, the security guards did not find them suspicious. After all, the entire building comprised offices with plenty of workers coming in from other areas. It would not be weird for people to clock in with luggage bags in tow.
Nicole asked for the stairwell footage to be found. As expected, the men immediately headed to the tallest spot in the building.
It was clear that they were the assassins.
However, all of them had face masks on, and their heads were lowered the entire time. There was not a time when their faces could be seen.
After the Clancies died, the three men left the building. There was no doubt that those men were the culprits.
Nicole was observing the men in the footage when she spotted something. She quickly paused the video and pointed to an I.D. holder clipped to one of the men's waists.
"Look at this. Does this look familiar to you?" she asked.
When Colton heard that, he carefully examined the identification card. Suddenly, he was reminded of the Undercity sniper who ambushed him. That man had something similar hung by his belt too.
Back then, he had been so worried about Nicole that he had the sniper killed. Even so, he found quite a lot of clues from the items the man had on him.
"Yes, this sniper is from Undercity," he darkly answered.
"Everything is clear now. Undercity members helped the Clancies, but they failed to kidnap Hayden. Afraid of being exposed, they decided to murder the Clancies."
Nicole's mind spun as she analyzed the situation.
There was still something she did not understand though. Hence, she turned to Colton.
"Why is Undercity targeting me? Why is Hayden a target? Is Evelyn behind this?"
"No way," he swiftly denied before offering up an explanation.
"What Evelyn did was considered selfish nonsense. As a member of the Wrenns, she would never contact Undercity for anything."
The Wrenns were a family of politicians and government servants. There was no way they would want to be connected to an organization like Undercity.
It was strange though. It was unlikely for the mastermind to be Queenie since she was not that capable. Someone who could contact Undercity would definitely have connections and power.
There was only one possible suspect left. Immediately, Nicole's face went cold as she turned to Colton. "What about Sasha?"
Shock flashed through his eyes. He paused before hesitantly saying, "I don't think it's her. If she did it, why would she risk her life to save me?"
When she heard that, she kept quiet. After all, Sasha did risk her life to save him. That bullet was real. She would have died if the shot had hit her anywhere else.
She did not believe Sasha to be so capable or charming either. If Sasha was truly the mastermind, then she was truly a vicious woman.
"Can you contact the leader of Undercity? I wish to meet with him," she softly asked.
He nodded. "Very well. Meet him tomorrow. It is getting late. You should get some rest early. I will go with you to meet with the leader tomorrow."
