When Anna heard Olivia say that, she flinched. She had not expected that to be Olivia's aim.
Olivia paused for a moment.
"While the company is doing well under him," she continued. "The Gardner Corporation is a big company filled with many talented people. If he insists on getting together with Nicole, you should take his shares away. Let us see if he dares defy you still."
Benjamin frowned upon hearing that.
"The company is only as reputable as it is now because of Colton's hard work," he declared. "That is the only reason the company is doing better now!"
Olivia knew Benjamin would definitely side with Colton, so she began to question him.
"If we are not harsh, would he ever agree to give up on her? Benjamin, I do not want to betray the family. However, Madeline killed our mother. Can you really forget about that and let Nicole get married to Colton?"
He went quiet. If Madeline were his mother's murderer, there was no way he would accept Nicole as part of the family.
The man who had been silent the entire time then spoke up.
"Uncle, my son, Dylan, is quite good at business too. He started his own company. While it is not as big as Gardner Corporation, his company has already branched out to several other places. I can bring him over for a visit someday."
Benjamin's face clouded over. While Benedict was an old man who was still fixated on his wife's death, he was not a fool.
"If not for Colton, Gardner Corporation would not be what it is today," Benedict calmly stated. "You have enjoyed the fruits of his labor while doing nothing, so stop with the schemes!"
The man's face froze in awkwardness when he heard that. Olivia had asked him to come over today to offer his son up for the job.
Olivia had stated that Benedict might take away all of Colton's shares in the company in a fit of anger. Naturally, he would never miss a great opportunity like that. Hence, he eagerly came.
Benedict's eyes slid shut as he tiredly continued, "I am tired. We will talk about this later. I need to rest for a while."
He stood up and slowly walked away.
Now that Benedict was gone from the room, there was an awkward tension in the air. Seeing that, the man who spoke earlier swiftly came up with an excuse and left.
Once the man was gone, Benjamin turned to Olivia with a roar of fury. "Olivia, just what on earth are you doing?"
She clenched her fists as she shouted back with red-rimmed eyes.
"I just do not want that scheming hussy to be part of this family. I will never forgive that woman!"
Her shouting gave Benjamin a headache. He thereafter massaged his temple and sighed. "We still do not know what exactly happened…"
Before he could finish speaking, she interrupted him.
"What else is there to investigate? The photo is clear; Madeline Houston was driving. What more do we need to know?"
He sighed and kept quiet.
After venting out her anger, she had no more words to say. Hence, she turned and left as well.
Once everyone else in the room was gone, Anna turned to Benjamin.
"Is it absolutely impossible for Colton to be with Nicky?" she asked.
He closed his eyes. While he did not want to upset his son, he would never permit Nicole to marry Colton if her mother was the murderer.
"My mother was still breathing after being hit," he replied. "If Madeline had not run away and brought her to the hospital instead, Mother might still be alive."
As he spoke, he stared into Anna's eyes.
"Nicole grew up by her mother's side. Madeline had divorced William by then. If William were the culprit, Father would not have reacted this badly. If Madeline was the culprit though, then Nicole can't be with Colton."
