At this moment, Queenie felt like she had been struck by lightning. She gave her all, yet in return, Colton shrugged her off like she was nothing.
Finally, she couldn't steady herself at the revelation. She staggered backward for a little and completely slumped to the ground.
She couldn't hold back her tears as they streamed down her cheeks. As she sobbed piteously, her body shook with immense sadness and frustration. Finally, she only looked up at him after a long while and demanded, "Why?! Why did you do this to me?!"
He calmly lowered his head and looked at her, who looked utterly pathetic, without even the slightest trace of sympathy in his eyes. Then, he said coldly, "You should know why."
Queenie balled her fists tightly as she thought, That's right. I should've known a long time ago. I lied to Colton for five years, so how can he still possibly be with me now that he has found out the truth? This is nothing but my own wishful thinking all along!
As she thought of that, she bit her lip harshly. Her heart was filled with agony, for she finally realized that it was so foolish of her to naively think that Colton actually married her and not just for show.
Queenie raised her head as she gazed at Colton's handsome face. I have liked Colton for so many years. Yet, in the end, all my efforts are in vain, and I gain nothing out of it.
In the meantime, he frowned slightly when he saw the key in her hand. He squatted down and tugged the key out of her grip.
His face, which was already gloomy in the first place, turned even more sullen after he took a closer look at the key. After that, he questioned menacingly, "Where did you get this key?"
She only snapped out of her thoughts and reacted after she heard his question. When she realized that she didn't hide the key well, she wanted to make a desperate attempt for the key in her panic. However, he immediately straightened and dodged her outstretched hand.
Since she didn't know how to explain herself, she simply kept her mouth shut and refused to utter a single word.
When he saw her refusal to speak, he retained the gloomy expression on his face and showed no sign of movement.
Queenie suddenly jerked up as she recalled something. She stared at Colton with a manic expression and pressed, "Regarding my dad's matter… Were you the one taking revenge on me?!"
Colton chuckled at her demands. Then, he didn't bother to conceal his contempt for her as he turned the question back to her dispassionately, "In your heart, did you seriously not know what your father did?"
As she looked at his somber eyes, her heart skipped a beat. She clenched her fists tightly as she thought, It seems that Colton really does have the evidence. But isn't Bryan the only one who possessed this piece of evidence?
"Even if my dad hit Old Mrs. Gardner with his car, Madeline wasn't innocent in this matter either! The two were directly involved in this as they killed Old Mrs. Gardner in cold blood! Colton, Nicole's parents were responsible for Old Mrs. Gardner's death! Tell me: how could you still possibly be willing to be with her?!"
Queenie knew that she had utterly lost her chance of being together with him, so she decided to implicate Nicole in this matter. In her mind, she thought, If I can't get married to Colton now anyway, I might as well drag Nicole down with me and make her life miserable too!
As he heard her ravings, the muscles on his face tensed. He remained expressionless for a long while before he finally parted his lips and spoke solemnly, "Leave."
Queenie merely remained on the ground as she laughed like a lunatic. I never expected that Colton would still take Nicole's side and defend her even after things had come to this point. She kept laughing so hard at that thought that she eventually teared up. She only staggered to her feet after a good long while.
Nonetheless, she still shot Nicole a parting resentful glare and hissed through her teeth, "Nicole! Dad indeed ran over Old Mrs. Gardner, but your mom also bore all the responsibility for the incident that took place back then. At that time, Dad was drunk driving and ran over Old Mrs. Gardner, but your mom was also involved in this. She covered up for Dad and even changed seats with him willingly."
Queenie continued to laugh with red-rimmed eyes. "So, what's the big deal even if Dad is the murderer? You still can't deny the fact that both of them are in cahoots. Do you think the Gardners can accept you being together with Colton?" As she said that, she thought, The rest of my life is ruined anyway, but I won't allow Nicole to have her way either. She wants to be with Colton? Dream on!
Nicole's facial expression was rather awful as she narrowed her eyes at Queenie, who was in a near-manic state. Eventually, she took a step forward and slapped Queenie across her face. Then, she refuted with an expression as cold as ice and piercing eyes, "You're spewing nonsense! My mom isn't such a person!"
