Chapter 298 Rose Paradise
Higgs was oblivious to the fact that Maren and Sawyer were communicating through messages on their phones,
a method his surveillance couldn’t detect.
“Lucien just woke up. I told him to hide for a while. If you have nothing else to do, stay and help me finish this act.” Maren messaged Sawyer, who was right beside her.
“Got it,” Sawyer replied immediately, always ready to assist.
They spent the next two weeks under the vigilant gaze of the Marshall family, delivering an impeccable performance that left Higgs without a single point of criticism.
During this period, Yvette, who was staying at a hotel, contacted Higgs to check on their progress.
“Nothing to report,” Higgs replied reluctantly in his response.
It seemed Maren and Sawyer were perfectly aware of the surveillance layout, consistently managing to position
themselves in the camera’s blind spots.
Higgs had even installed a camera in the bathroom, hoping to catch Maren in a vulnerable moment to use as blackmail. Yet, Maren cleverly never entered that bathroom, choosing instead to use the maid’s bathroom, which significantly frustrated Higgs as his plans crumbled.
“Utterly ineffective! Have you merely been idling away your time?” Yvette was furious.
She had been waiting eagerly for an update, especially after the banquet, where Higgs had assured her of his foolproof strategy. Yet, now she learned that nothing had come of it.
“Maren’s resourcefulness is one thing, but unexpectedly, my cousin has also become, flawless in his role. It’s baffling,” Higgs retorted.
Endlessly monitoring the surveillance footage, Higgs had barely managed three hours of sleep each night over the last two weeks, occasionally needing others to take over his watch. Yet, despite his vigilance, Maren and Sawyer had not slipped up once. This was inexplicable to him.
An hour after their conversation, Yvette made her way from the hotel to the Marshall family’s surveillance room. Upon her arrival, Higgs informed her, “Maren has repeatedly requested to leave. She hasn’t done anything wrong, and we cannot detain her indefinitely. I’m nearing my limit here.”
“Neither has exhibited any slip–ups? Are you just making excuses, for your own incompetence?” Yvette responded, her tone dripping with doubt.
It was one thing for a single person to maintain a perfect act, but for two? Such a feat would typically require visible coordination, which should have left some evidence of their plotting.
“Take a look yourself. These two are perfectly synchronized without even speaking,” Higgs said, hardly exaggerating.

His views on Lucen had changed graficantly during this time
One dismissive of Lagen, he how seedged the capabilities
“Let me see,” “Quette insisted, positioning herself before the monitors.
On screen, Maren and Sewryer were each absorbed in their phones, silent
“They’re this relaxed all the time? Really? Yvette inquired
“Absolutely, they’ve been hooked on their phones like teens with a new app. I can’t figure it out. Is there a new game out of something? Hizzs expressed his frustration. His patience was wearing thin from the prolonged
surveillance,
“Hold on, they’ve been on their phones non–stop?” Yvette suddenly became more suspicious.
Higgs was puzzled by her sudden interest. “Yes, just messing around on their phones. What’s the big deal?”
“What’s the big deal?” Yvette couldn’t help but smirk at Higgs‘ obliviousness. “And how exactly did you just communicate with me?”
“Through texts, of course. What’s your point?” Higgs replied, a bit puzzled.
However, as he spoke, a realization dawned on him, signaled by Yvette’s knowing look.
“You’re suggesting they’ve been coordinating their act through texts?” he asked, his voice a mix of disbelief and
annoyance.
“Finally caught on, have you?” Yvette retorted sharply.
“So, what’s our next move?” Higgs asked, visibly agitated by his oversight.
“We have to let them go. They’ve planned out their strategy over those phones. All our watching has been for nothing. They’ve outsmarted us,” Yvette replied, her tone resigned yet admiring of their ingenuity.
Maren and Sawyer had clearly anticipated and countered every move Higgs planned, rendering his surveillance efforts futile.
“Fine.” Higgs agreed reluctantly.
“They finally gave up.” Maren said with relief, stretching her arms as they strolled away from the Marshall family’s estate.
Finally free from the scrutiny, they could now savor a moment of freedom, breathing in the liberty of a surveillance–free life.
“Yeah, it’s crazy how fast it ended,” Sawyer murmured. The past few weeks had intensified his feelings, and he wasn’t quite ready to let go of the closeness they’d developed.
Maren missed the deeper sentiment in his comment. “There’s the medicinal competition tomorrow, and we’re finally free today. What do you say to a meal?”
The time was just right–it was noon.
