Chapter 297 A Flawless Act
Higgs made a valid observation, even if Maren and Sawyer appeared to be flawlessly executing their roles.
The ongoing surveillance of Sawyer and Maren was bound to reveal the truth sooner or later
Catching them in a seemingly intimate moment might solidify their suspicions.
The method was far from ethical.
Yet, Calvert had no choice but to resort to such a method for verification.
In Lucien’s room, a true kiss between Sawyer and Maren had not occurred. Had their lips met, Maren would
have reacted violently.
Their lips remained slightly apart.
Upon entering the room, Sawyer had immediately spotted the surveillance camera.
He strategically positioned himself with his back to the camera, using his taller frame to obscure Maren, making
it unclear to observers whether a kiss had actually taken place.
Maren discreetly traced a message on Sawyer’s chest with her finger. “Stay quiet.”
Sawyer acknowledged with a nod.
Given the presence of a camera, there was probably a listening device too.
The
s were well–prepared.
“Can we escape this situation?” While maintaining his hold on her, Sawyer subtly wrote his question on her
back with his fingertip.
He found it challenging to maintain his composure, standing so close to Maren, their bodies almost merging, their breaths mingling.
“Okay, that’s enough,” Maren said aloud.
Sawyer feigned disappointment, asking, “What’s the matter?” He knew Maren was about to stage their next act.
With a gentle nudge, Maren created some distance between them. “We’ve just been intimate in the restroom, and here you are, pushing for more. Isn’t that a bit much?”
“But how can I help myself? You’re too appealing, and any man would find it hard to keep his distance.” Sawyer responded, playing his part. “The way you shyly ran off earlier was adorable. I couldn’t hold back. I love you deeply.”
“Enough with your sweet talk. You always say such things so that we can make out. Remember our first time? Consider how often you’ve done this. I don’t feel right about being intimate in such unfamiliar settings.”

Chapter 297 A Flawless Act
Maren’s assertive dialogue almost caught Sawyer off guard, but he grasped her strategy immediately ster words were crafted for the ears of the Marshall family, showcasing their supposed deep connection while validating the realness of their relationship.
Moreover, het final remark provided a pretext for her earlier hesitation and paved the way for less affectionate
interactions going forward. If they couldn’t consistently display affection, Maren’s stated discomfort would
serve as a plausible excuse to keep some distance from Sawyer, preventing any suspicion from the Marshall
family.
This way, those monitoring them wouldn’t grow suspicious.
“Very well. Let’s take a break from this for a couple of days,” Sawyer replied, aligning with Maren’s cues.
“You’re so good!” Maren pretended to kiss Sawyer on the lips, though she didn’t actually touch him.
From the angle of the camera, it looked convincing.
They were skilled in handling such scenarios; Higgs‘ little tricks posed no real threat to them.
“What? They’re not going to do anything for the next few days?”
Higgs almost erupted in anger in the monitoring room.
He was once more impressed by Maren’s tactical acumen.
Under normal circumstances, given Lucien’s reputation as a ladies‘ man, it would be suspicious if he didn’t have physical contact with Maren over several days.
Living together yet abstaining from intimacy would usually be a red flag.
However, Maren had cleverly preempted any suspicions with her earlier statement. This provided a plausible cover for their lack of physical intimacy in the days ahead, and Higgs found himself without any leverage to question Maren’s motives. She had clearly stated her discomfort.
“Higgs, what’s the issue?” Calvert and the others turned to him, puzzled by his reaction.
“No, nothing’s wrong.” Higgs held back his thoughts.
He believed Maren was oblivious to the surveillance and eavesdropping. Even if he suggested that Maren was manipulating the situation deliberately, it was unlikely anyone would take his side.
Higgs was tormented by a daunting suspicion.
Was it possible that Maren, somehow aware of the camera and the listening device he had concealed, had strategically mentioned her discomfort?
Even Higgs had trouble buying into the idea.
It just sounded too out there.
Nevertheless, Maren and Sawyer, armed with their plausible explanation, resumed their usual activities. They lounged on the couch, engaged with the television, their interaction punctuated with casual conversation and shared laughter, embodying an everyday couple.
Their interactions were free from excessive affection, marked only by the occasional exchange of snacks.
