By the time Nathan and Linus got out, there were already several black cars with military car plates parked outside the police station.
As the two headed toward the first car, Linus stopped beside the door and invited Nathan in courteously.
But Nathan declined with a smile. “After you.”
After they got into the car, the sedan sped off and headed toward Riverside Garden.
“What brings you all the way here? I thought you were in Brimmopolis? Aren't you busy at the Security Department?” Nathan bombarded him with questions right after he got in.
“I came on order,” Linus replied accordingly.
“Oh! On whose order? And what for?”
“President Woods asked me to come over. He also asked you to be prepared to take up a new job.”
The President?Garrett?
“That's great. I finally get to flex some muscles. I knew he wouldn't just neglect me after he became the President,” he said chirpily. “So what's this new assignment he's given me? Does he want to make me the General of the North again?”
Linus shook his head. “No, that's not what the President intended. He's not reinstating your position.”
A resigned smile formed on Nathan's face after an abrupt pause. “I see... He probably has to discuss with the Cabinet before finalizing any decision. I'm sure Clifford is giving him a hard time as the Cabinet secretary. Garrett just went into office, so I bet it'll be difficult dealing with those old foxes.”
But Linus begged to differ. “General, President Woods knows what he wants. He is very low-key, but that doesn't mean he's spineless. If he has his mind set on something, he will stand his ground no matter how Clifford or the Cabinet stands in his way.”
“But if he's not reinstating me to my previous position, what is he trying to do?” Nathan asked.
Linus smiled mysteriously at his question. “Did you listen to the President's inauguration speech? He said the Chief Military Governor would be in charge of the country's finance and national security.”
The Chief Military Governor?
