Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) novel Chapter 1989

A week had passed since Nathan first arrived in Channing.

Now a Chief Military Governor, he couldn't stay away from Brimmopolis for very long as there were stacks upon stacks of documents waiting for him to sign back at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor.

Coincidentally, his daughter's summer break was starting within the next two days. Her school, Tulip Elementary, was hosting a summer camp in Brimmopolis and had arranged for a group of students to travel there.

As soon as Queenie came home from school, she started asking her parents about participating in the summer camp.

Furrowing her eyebrows slightly, Penny thought it over. “Money isn't an issue, but Brimmopolis is just too far, and the camp is a month-long. How can Papa and Mama just drop everything and accompany you to Brimmopolis for that long?

“Besides, we'd feel uneasy if you're going only with your fellow students and teachers. Maybe next time, munchkin?”

Queenie's face fell, but she nodded in understanding. “Okay... Then I'll wait for Papa and Mama to bring me to Brimmopolis next time.”

Nathan had planned on telling his family that he had to go back to Brimmopolis for work today, but his daughter just beat him to the punch by asking to travel to the exact same city for a summer camp.

The sight of Queenie's disappointed expression drew a laugh out of him. “Don't get so down,

Queenie. I think you should join that summer camp.

“Really, Papa?” Queenie gasped, her eyes lighting up.

When Nathan noticed Penny's confused stare on him, he explained, “Honey, I actually wanted to tell you all that I have to go to Brimmopolis for work. If our daughter joins the summer camp, I can take care of her while we're there.”

Work?

Penny did a double take.

Was Nathan unsatisfied with living a normal life and wanted to find his allies in Brimmopolis so he could continue serving his country?

It's very possible!

After all, Nathan was once the commander-ln-Chief of the North Army, and he was still so young. It made perfect sense that he was already bored of living in retirement.

Penny had always respected Nathan's choices. She was also aware that her husband held an important role in the military, although the details of his work were completely confidential.

As a result, she didn't pry any further upon hearing that Nathan had to go due to work issues. “Well, I'm not very busy right now, so I might as well accompany you both to Brimmopolis. But I can't stay for a month. I can only go for a few days before returning to Channing for work,” she hummed.
