After listening to Amos, Nathan sympathized with the man because he went through a similar experience.
Like Amos, he only enlisted in the army due to his misfortune in life and went through ups and downs before finally getting together with Penny.
However, Nathan found it odd that the man seemed to be down after mentioning that Amelia had successfully regained her eyesight two months ago. Why does Amos look sad? His girlfriend regained her sight in the end. Isn 't that supposed to be a good thing?
“Did something else happen?” inquired Nathan gently.
After some hesitation, Amos suddenly bowed before Nathan and begged, “Please, General! Can I ask you for a favor?”
“What are you doing? Just get up first, and we'll talk.”
As requested, Amos then got back on his feet.
“Okay. So what is it that you need my help with?” continued Nathan.
“I'm going to be honest with you, General. When Amelia was still blind, we were very close. I would spend most of my time taking care of her, and she was gentle to me. But after she had recovered, Amelia gradually turned back to her vain self. Sometimes, I feel like she purposely keeps her distance because she despises me. We've talked about getting married, but now, I worry that she'll change her mind. That's why I need you to play matchmaker between us. I'm sure she'll be thrilled to have a commanding officer like you to be our matchmaker. That should be enough to convince her to marry me.”
Nathan chuckled in response. “That's it? Of course! I'd be more than happy to be your matchmaker. On top of that, after you two get married, I'll arrange a decent job for you. I know men and women are supposed to be equal now, but I still think it's best if you can provide for your future wife.”
“Thank you, General! I owe you big time!” exclaimed Amos excitedly.
Suddenly, the two could hear somebody knocking on the door.
That's weird. We don't get a lot of visitors here. Maybe Amelia has forgotten to bring her keys?” uttered Amos with a brow raised.
As expected, Amos found a good-looking woman in a white dress standing just behind the door, and it was none other than his girlfriend, Amelia.
Amos was just about to tell Amelia the good news when he noticed a man with gold-rimmed glasses in a designer suit standing next to his girlfriend.
