Merwyn was sure that it was just a coincidence. There's no way he's the Chief Military Governor.
He forced himself to calm down and stared at Nathan. “Nathan, switch your phone back on,” he said loudly.
Nathan smiled. “You were the one who wanted me to turn it off. And now you're asking me to turn it on again? But sure, I will do as you say.”
With that, Nathan turned on his phone again.
Merwyn stared at the phone. He suddenly didn't have the courage to call the Chief Military Governor again.
Nathan smiled and turned to Merwyn. “What's wrong? I thought you wanted to file a complaint against me?”
Merwyn's hand started to tremble. It was as if he was holding on to a grenade instead of a phone.
Nathan's smirk infuriated him.
No. He couldn't be the Chief Military Governor. The Chief Military Governor is stationed in Brimmopolis and is such a busy man. Why would he be here in
Channing?
With that thought in mind, Merwyn dialed the Chief Military Governor's phone number again.
He was gripped with terror as he made the call. Please don't let Nathan's phone ring. Please don't let Nathan's phone ring...
A moment later, Nathan's phone rang.
His ringing tone sounded like the toll of a death bell to Merwyn's ears.
At the same time, he felt as if a bullet had pierced right through his heart. He froze.
Is Nathan really the Chief Military Governor?
Merwyn turned to stare at Nathan in horror. He was sinking into a state of despair as helplessness overcame him.
Meanwhile, Nathan was staring at Merwyn with a smile. He looked at his phone and asked, “Merwyn, would you like me to pick up the call?”
“Yes,” Merwyn answered hoarsely.
At the moment, he was like a drowning person desperately clinging to his last straw of hope. He was like a gambling addict with a penny left in his pocket, trying his best to regain everything he had lost.
