Both Merwyn and Oliver had no choice but to look up.
Nathan said coldly, “Merwyn, I'm going to ask you one last time. What exactly did Kristoff and Bowen bribe you with?”
Merwyn began perspiring profusely, gritted his teeth, and dared not speak.
“I am now giving you a chance to come clean. If you decide otherwise, then don't blame me.”
He knew Nathan was the Chief Military Governor, so he knew he was doomed. There was no way he was going to get away with it this time around.
Shaking uncontrollably in fear, he begged for mercy. “Chief Military Governor, I have been blinded this time and made a grave mistake. I'm willing to come clean. Please have mercy on me!”
Merwyn then went ahead to divulge everything in detail from when Novah Pharmaceutical Company and the Camden family had approached him to the bribes that he was given. He even revealed how much he had given Oliver for his share and the process in which he had released
Kristoff and Bowen.
After Merwyn was done with his confessions, he burst into tears and was remorseful.
Likewise, Oliver was clambering on the ground and shaking in fear. He also knew he was a goner.
After Nathan heard everything, he said, “Our country has spent lots of effort to train both of you. Your achievements to date are the pride of your respective families. It’s a pity that you abused your powers, accepted briberies, and turned out to be the black sheep. As the Chief Military Governor, I am only in charge of the military affairs and not the political aspects. Therefore, I will not deal with either of you. The two of you shall turn yourselves in. Later on, I will inform the President, and he will have the final say in how you should be dealt with.”
Everyone was aware that President Woods had appointed the Chief Military Governor. Moreover, the president had placed immense trust in the governor and left him in charge of all military affairs.
Once the Chief Military Governor reported this matter to President Woods, there was no way the president would let Merwyn and
Oliver off.
All of them present knew that it was over for the two men.
Both men lost control of their emotions and started wailing.
