“Nathan, what a coincidence!” he sneered. “You told me that you would give me an answer almost a week ago. Why haven't you set a location yet? Are you afraid to fight me?”
Layden's family and many of his followers in the vicinity glared at Nathan with the same disdainful look their leader wore.
“I had originally planned to send a man to inform you tonight,” Nathan replied flatly. “But since you are in such a hurry, I might as well spare you the suspense of waiting. I will decide on a location tomorrow. You will be the first one to be informed once I do.”
“I have better things to do than to wait around for your answer tomorrow,” Layden snorted. “As you may have heard, I will be reporting to the military headquarters to assume the post of Assistant Chief Military Governor tomorrow. Would you still have the balls to lay a finger on me when I assume office?”
Cayden's entourage laughed loudly.
Nathan remained impassive as he glanced at the temple behind Cayden. “You will find out tomorrow. You know what you did, old man. No amount of prayer can save you now. It's better to ask me for forgiveness instead. Pray for the decent ending you don't deserve.”
Ask him for forgiveness? He's insane.
Nathan's words caused a bristle amongst the ranks of Layden's followers. However, they had an electrifying effect on the man himself.
What does Nathan know?
Layden's murderous intent grew with the sense of unease in his heart. “Enjoy your insolence for now,” he said coldly. “After all, it's the most a washed-up has been like you are capable of.”
Nathan said nothing in response.
Instead, he turned and left with Colin.
Early on the following day, Cayden officially reported to the military headquarters to be sworn into office as the Assistant Chief Military Governor.
The Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor was unusually lively that day.
Among those present were Elijah, commander-in-chief of the East Army, Lucas, commander-in-chief of the West Army, Zach, commander-in-chief of the South Army, Fang, commander-in-chief of the North Army, Will, commander-in-chief of the Capital Garrison, and other important figures within the military.
