With Gianna pointing the way, Max's convoy moved out of the city slowly and eventually pulled up in front of an ancient manor in the countryside.
Whoosh!
A flock of bats flew off the moment they appeared at the entrance of the manor. On the heels of that, the rusty gate opened automatically with a creak.
The convoy moved slowly into the courtyard of the manor that was overgrown with vast vine plants before stopping outside a mottled old house. Seconds later, Max, Gianna, and his bodyguards exited their cars.
At that moment, an elderly man with thinning hair and dressed in a tuxedo was standing outside the house.
Carrying an oil lamp, he greeted Max with a slight bow.
Gianna introduced, “Admiral Max, this is Kaiser, Lord Antonio's loyal butler.”
Kaiser welcomed Max in a respectful manner, “Admiral Max, Lord Antonio has been expecting you for quite some time. This way, please.”
Just as Max was about to enter with his bodyguards, Kaiser stood in their way. “Admiral Max, your subordinates are not allowed to enter.”
In an instant, Max's bodyguards flipped out. One of them chastised, “How dare you! We're the admiral's soldiers and must stay by his side at all times. Don't you know we must follow him everywhere he goes?”
With a subtle twinkle in her eyes, Gianna deliberately said, “Kaiser, since we are vampires, it makes sense for Admiral Max to be worried about his safety. How about we make an exception and allow his bodyguards to enter—”
Before she could finish her words, Max snapped coldly, “That's not necessary. I don't think there'll be any risk awaiting me in a mere viscount's manor. After all, you're just lowly nobodies to me. It’s only your wishful thinking if you think you can inflict harm on me.”
The next moment, he strode into the house without any hesitation. Gianna and Kaiser quickened their paces to follow closely behind him.
Once Max stepped into the house, he could hear the faint sounds of someone playing the piano.
Hearing that, Antonio was stupefied.
Max added coolly, “To be honest, I still doubt your competence. Regardless, since I'm here to meet you now, it indicates I'm willing to give you a chance. If you're able to kill Cross within one month, I'll grant your wish no matter what you request.”
Antonio knitted his brows momentarily. Soon, his frown smoothened as he smiled agreeably. “Okay! Instead of dawdling with words, I’d rather get the mission accomplished first. Admiral Max, I'll help you eradicate Cross before discussing the reward with you.”
Never had Max expected that Antonio would be this confident. Hence, he could not resist feeling a sense of anticipation as a smile broke out on his face, and he nodded. “Very good!”
Antonio put his wine glass down casually and stretched his hand toward Max politely. A wide smile spread over his face. “May we have a pleasant collaboration.”
Max flashed Antonio a glance before stretching out his hand to shake the latter's hand.
