I thought of the life I had before, the love I once felt for Jackson.
I had given him everything, and in return, he had given me nothing but pain and humiliation. The smell was unbearable and the poop clung to my skin. It took every strength I had to get up from the pile.
“Clean it all up,” one of them ordered. “And don’t even think about slacking off. We'll be checking on you.”
I stared at him.How could they expect me to clean up this mess? It was degrading beyond words.
Not only did they push me into a pile of shit, they expected me to clean it up too? I wanted to say something but I knew better than to protest. I had no power here, no one to stand up for me. It was night time already.
The chill of the night air began to seep into my bones, making me feel cold. With a resigned sigh, I forced myself to get started on the job. The filth clung to me, making every movement feel like a struggle.
I found a broken shovel against the fence and began the disgusting task. Each scoop I took brought fresh tears to my eyes. It was the most degrading thing I had ever been through. The yard was silent. The only sounds I could hear were my labored breathing and the rustle of leaves in the wind. I was so absorbed in my task that I didn’t hear Gina approach until she was right behind me.
“Well, well, Look at you, Elise,” Gina’s voice dripped with mockery. “From Luna to the pack’s personal cleaner. How the mighty have fallen.”
I straightened up, turning to face her. She stood there in her lavish gold dress and fancy jewelry.
She was wearing a crown on her head, my crown! She smiled evily at me. I clenched the handle of the shovel tightly “What do you want, Gina?”
