After a moment of silence, Liberty said, “He’s out of the ICU and transferred to a normal ward. He’s recovering. I brought Sonny to visit him previously.”
Grandma May hummed in acknowledgment. “Does Hank still want to make up with you?”
“He regrets his decision but has never mentioned anything about remarrying me. He and Jessica aren’t divorced yet. His family hopes he’d get a divorce, but he doesn’t seem to think the same way.
“However, even if he gets divorced, I won’t remarry him. I won’t stop him from meeting and bonding with Sonny because he’s his dad, but I’ll never remarry him out of consideration for Sonny. My feelings for him were already gone the moment he suggested we split our bills.”
After a pause, Liberty added, “The Browns are persistent about getting Hank to remarry me. How can I do that? My heart was wounded terribly. It’s as good as dead. There’s no way I’ll go back. Even if I don’t get married again for the rest of my life, I’ll never remarry him.
“Besides, Hank’s family isn’t hoping for us to remarry because we still have feelings for each other, nor is it out of consideration for Sonny. They’re simply trying to gain benefits because they saw my life has improved and know that Seren is the York family’s missus.
“I always try to solve my own problems. I don’t want to seek Zachary’s help or hold Seren back. How can I let them be the ones holding Seren back? They must be delusional or dreaming.
“They’re all outrageous people, like my relatives back in my hometown.”
Liberty had always been worried that her problems would hinder her sister. Although they had found Aunt Audrey, who was financially well-off and could support them, the Stones were not part of the Hunts.
She feared the York family would look down on Serenity, so she tried her best not to trouble her younger sister. She would never say anything about issues she could resolve herself.
Since Liberty was not strong enough for her sister to depend on her, she would not get in her sister’s way or cause her any trouble.
Grandma May nodded in agreement. “Don’t feel too burdened or think that you’ll hinder Serenity. We’ve become family for some time now. You should know my family’s character well. Don’t hesitate to let us know whenever you’re facing problems.
“Anyway, I’m relieved that you think that way. At least I don’t have to worry about you getting soft-hearted and fooled by the Brown family again.”
“I won’t, Nana. Falling into their trap once was enough. How can I fall into the same trap twice? The divorce had caused a commotion back then, but it was thanks to Zachary that it went how I wanted it to and ended smoothly.
