Hunter’s smile froze. Marcus was once him.
If Hunter had something to show for, he would not have married into the Fisher family and become a sperm donor to Belinda.
At least, Belinda was good to his family. His sacrifice had given something back to his parents and siblings.
However, Hunter did not have freedom, especially financially. His wife only gave him a daily allowance of five hundred dollars to prevent him from cheating. He did not have the guts to cheat on Belinda anyway.
Many women threw themselves at him over the years while he was already married, but Hunter dared not cross the line. He did not have the courage to talk with those beautiful women.
He knew too well what Belinda was capable of and would be in for it if he got on her nerves. Even his family could feel her rage.
After Caroline was born, Belinda settled down and reduced their bedroom activities by a large margin. He was afraid she would leave him now that he had lost his value to her. Cheating was the last thing on his mind.
Hunter had struggled for the past decades since marrying into the Fisher family and he only had himself to blame for.
He saw his younger self in Marcus.
“Besides, marriages shouldn’t be taken lightly. I'm not attracted to Marcus in that way. You can't force love.
“Mom, I hope I will be the one to pick a husband when I’m ready for marriage. I want a capable man to share my worries with. I don’t want to marry a man like my dad. He’s just a pretty face.”
Hunter was furious. “Watch your mouth, Caroline. I’m your father.
“Belinda, did you hear what Caroline said about me? She doesn’t have respect for me. How am I a bad husband? Your mother wouldn’t have chosen me if I was.”
Madam Fisher furrowed her brows. “Your car broke down? Do you get it serviced regularly? The client tonight values punctuality. He hates tardiness. He would've left if you were late to the meeting.”
“That was why I rushed to the hotel. I made it in time with five minutes to spare, all thanks to Mr. Queen. Mr. Queen was on his way back from work when he found me with a broken car. He then dropped me off at Jensburg Hotel.
“Mom, since Mr. Queen helped me, I’m going to buy him lunch tomorrow.”
Madam Fisher made no comment. Instead, she said, “Caroline, you’ve been too close to Mr. Queen. That’s Celine’s man. It’s ugly for sisters to fight over a husband.”
“Mom, Mr. Queen and I hit it off. We’re just friends. I know Mr. Queen doesn’t fit our family.”
Caroline glanced at Celine. Celine was jealous to hear that Hayden drove Caroline to the hotel.
