Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 2912

Paige forbade Carrie from smoking too. While she usually let Carrie do whatever she wanted, smoking was strictly banned because she hated the smell of it. If Cain smoked, Paige would make him spend the night in the study.

Paige also told Carrie that she was to become the York family’s missus in the future. If she liked to smoke, it could be disadvantageous to her plan to marry into the family as the Yorks might not like it.

In the end, Carrie neither smoked nor married into the York family.

She had become a middle-aged man’s mistress instead.

It was all because of Camryn and Serenity.

Carrie would grit her teeth in anger whenever she was reminded of her situation.

“You can learn how to smoke. It can help when you’re in a bad mood or feeling depressed.”

Mr. Longbottom passed her a cigarette and lit it for her.

Carrie took two drags before she started coughing heavily.

Mr. Longbottom laughed and said, “You’ll get used to it. Learning how to smoke is easy, but quitting is hard.”

After Carrie finally stopped coughing, she said, “I used to go on shopping sprees whenever I was in a bad mood. I bought everything I liked, regardless of whether it was useful or not. My mood would improve with retail therapy.”

Mr. Longbottom pinched her cheek. “Not everyone can afford your form of therapy.”

“My parents loved me the most before they went to prison. I could have anything I wanted and never had to worry about money. My life was carefree. On the other hand, Camryn was treated worse than a maid. She didn’t even have her room and lived with the maids.

“If it weren’t for Serenity and me offending Mr. York, our family wouldn’t have ended up like this. Camryn managed to turn the situation around and regained her sight. She also got married to Callum. Why does she and Serenity have such good luck?”

Serenity’s and Camryn’s family backgrounds were clearly inferior to hers.

Hatred and jealousy were infused in Carrie’s every word.
