Married At First Sight Chapter 4047
Chapter 4047
“Sonny is doing well now. Are you planning to pick him up from kindergarten?” “Yes”
Serenity considered it for a moment before agreeing. “Okay. I’ll send a message to Sonny’s teacher and let them know you’ll pick him up this afternoon.”
“Thanks, Serenity,” Hank replied, his tone genuinely appreciative.
Hank was grateful that Serenity didn’t make things difficult for him. Both Serenity and Liberty were kind-hearted people. Liberty had moved on with her life, even finding a new relationship. She had long let go of the resentment she once harbored toward Hank and had learned to coexist peacefully with him.
Serenity, however, still held onto some dissatisfaction with Hank. Yet, she understood that he was Sonny’s biological father and played a role in Sonny’s life. For Sonny’s sake and his healthy growth, Serenity tolerated Hank. Whenever he expressed a desire to see Sonny, she didn’t stand in his way.
“When you pick up Sonny and take him home for dinner, please don’t let him eat junk food— especially fried chicken, potato chips, or anything high in calories. Those things irritate his throat. The fever he had last time was caused by that.”
“I understand,” Hank assured her. “I’ll let my parents know not to feed him those foods anymore.”
Hank had learned from Serenity that Sonny’s fever had been due to his parents letting him indulge in fried chicken and potato chips. They had unfairly blamed Duncan, but Hank now saw how much Duncan cared for Sonny.
Deep down, Hank knew the truth: Duncan’s affection for Sonny wasn’t a strategy to get closer to Liberty. Duncan genuinely adored Sonny first, and his feelings for Liberty developed later.
Sonny’s intelligence and charm made him hard not to love, so Duncan’s fondness was only natural.
Hank asked, “What about the pick-up card?”
“I’m at my office right now,” Serenity replied. “You can stop by and get it from me here.”
Serenity figured this would be easier than returning home to the Regent Residences, only for Hank to ask her to deliver the card.
“Alright. I’ll come by to pick it up soon,” Hank agreed.
Serenity hummed in acknowledgment, and Hank, not wanting to interrupt her further, ended the call.
Elisa and Jasmine, who had overheard her side of the conversation, looked at her with concern.
“Why did Sonny’s father call you?” Elisa asked. “Is he going to pick Sonny up from kindergarten?”
“Yeah,” Serenity replied. “He said he’ll handle it this afternoon. Hank’s parents went to pick Sonny up last time, but Sonny ended up leaving with my brother-in-law instead. That made them furious. When Sonny got sick afterward, my brother-in-law was upset, and they argued.
Sonny came home asking why his grandparents always yell at people. He couldn’t
understand it.”
In Sonny’s eyes, his grandparents were always scolding someone. They had yelled at his mother in the past, but after the divorce, they started trying to win her over while turning their ire toward Duncan. Sonny didn’t understand the complexities of adult relationships, but he was sure of one thing: Uncle Duncan wasn’t in the wrong.
Elisa shook her head. “Hank’s parents are something else. Honestly, Liberty was lucky to divorce him. Staying in that family would’ve been emotionally exhausting.”
Jasmine chimed in, “Can you believe they had the nerve to scold Mr. Lewis? It’s pure jealousy. They’re bitter that Liberty found happiness in her second marriage while their son didn’t fare as well. They almost ruined Liberty and Sonny’s lives, and now they’re lashing out at anyone who supports them.”
Elisa nodded in agreement. “It’s always the same with families like that. In-laws who side with their sons against their daughters-in-law always seem to think they can find someone better.
But the irony? The ‘better one’ is always the person they tried to push away.”
