Chapter 49 Who Would Nicholas Choose?
Even though she knew that he didn’t choose her out of love, Nancy’s heart couldn’t help but beat faster and faster.
Thank you, Nicholas. Thank you for your decisiveness.
And thank you for not hesitating!
Possibly due to her pregnancy, Nancy kept dozing off occasionally on the way back.
With one arm extended, Nicholas pulled her head onto his chest and said, “If you’re tired, just
nap.”
“Okay.”
Nancy snuggled into his arms obediently and closed her eyes.
She might seem calm.
But only she knew that she had been panicked for a long time.
She wondered if she had made the right or wrong decision today.
She also wondered if he really could let go of Madelline.
But like she told Linda, she wanted to try this one last time for the sake of their baby.
“Oh, Nicholas. I’ve given you everything I have, and I hope you won’t let me lose the bet. In her heart, she said silently..
Nancy knew that Madelline definitely couldn’t sit still.
She guessed that Madelline would come up to her.
But she didn’t expect it to be that soon.
“Nancy, let’s meet up!” Madelline came straight to the point when she called her.
“If you’re trying to persuade me for a divorce, then there’s no need. Nicholas has clarified it to you, and I don’t need to repeat myself.
“You’re wrong. I meant nothing more than asking you out for tea.”
Madeline’s response did indeed come as a surprise to Nancy.

“I’m busy.” Nancy firmly declined.
“I’ll be at the same coffee shop as last time. If you don’t come, I’ll come to find you. You can decide.”
Nancy was speechless. She changed her clothes, then took a taxi to the coffee shop.
When she arrived, Madelline had already ordered coffee.
She sipped her coffee, smiling gently, unlike a woman who had lost in love. Instead, her face was radiant, and her smile was enchanting.
At the moment, Nancy couldn’t figure out exactly what she was trying to do, so she remained vigilant.
Just as she sat down, Madelline handed her an envelope.
“Open it and take a look,” she said with a smile.
Nancy’s fingers gripped the envelope, its material feeling firm and familiar in her hand.
She had already guessed that there should be some photos inside.
If she guessed correctly, they must be photos of when Madelline and Nicholas were together.
Although she had known and heard from others for a long time that they had been in a sweet and loving relationship.
But she didn’t see it with her own eyes.
When everything was captured in images, vividly displayed in front of Nancy, it was a different
matter.
She admitted she wasn’t composed.
She felt distressed and jealous.
But she couldn’t give up and certainly couldn’t let Madelline see her fear.
She tilted her head back, gave a faint smile, and then pushed the envelope in front of Madelline. “No need, I’ve already guessed what’s inside.”
“Since you’ve guessed it, why don’t you dare to open it, Nancy? You’re afraid, Madelline stared directly into her eyes and said with conviction.
“That’s nonsense! Why would I be afraid?”
“Since you’re not afraid, then open it, Nancy. Let me see your courage.”

Nancy admitted she was provoked.
And suddenly, she had a mad desire to look at those photos.
She wanted to see how they had once loved each other, how deep their love had been, and why Nicholas had always remembered her.
“Alright, I’ll open it.”
Taking a deep breath, Nancy steadied her trembling hands, tore open the envelope, and poured the photos inside.
There were many photos piled up thickly.
As she emptied the envelope, the photos scattered all over the place. Looking down, she saw those images of Madelline and Nicholas together.
Back then, they both looked young. They were in their school uniforms.
There were two of them standing side by side.
Some were looking at each other with gentle smiles.
There were two of them sitting together reading books in the library.
There was even a scene where Madelline stood on tiptoes to kiss Nicholas under the sunlight.
They had so many past moments, so much love between them.
“If it’s not enough, I have plenty more at home.”
“Nancy, you know why Nicholas didn’t divorce you, right? I know you feel triumphant now, but does that matter? Does he love you? Can a marriage without love be happy?”
“No matter how much Nicholas rejects me, I will always be in his heart. He can’t abandon me.”
Nancy was just a little short of being completely crushed by these words from Madelline.
She was despondent and felt miserable.
She was upset that she couldn’t be a part of his youth and younger days.
She was upset that his lover and his past belonged to someone else.
But she had to be rational, hadn’t she?
No one can regret their youth, and there’s no such thing as a regret medicine in the world.

Taking a deep breath, Nancy looked at Madelline again with clear, determined eyes. “Even if everything you’ve said is true, so what? It’s all in the past, Madelline. You’ve already lost him.”
“Now, he’s my husband, and I’m his wife. Knowing just that is enough for me.”
“Is that so?” Madelline sneered. “Nancy, do you dare to make a bet with me?”
“How do you want to bet?”
As if possessed, Nancy agreed.
