She Can't Be Your Mate novel Chapter 20

"I'm good." She replied and both me and Jonah's jaws dropped.

"W-what?" He stuttered, not used to getting shot down.

"No offense or anything, but I'm just not really a Ferrari kind of girl." She sweetly said.

"I can, um get a different car?" He was confused, I stepped back a little and let Devina handle this.

"Nah that's okay, I want to ride with Zane." Jonah snapped his eyes towards me and sent me a questioning look. "I'm his mate." She added and I almost fell to my knees. If Jonah, didn't know about werewolves, this would be pretty funny. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, especially when she just accepted me as her mate.

"Man- I didn't know I swear!" I laughed and pulled Devina into my side again. I wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her forehead.

"I know. It's okay." He was probably still confused as we walked away from him.

"You're in buddy!" Levi patted my back as soon as we reached him.

"Thanks, man." I smiled and walked back to my Bugatti. "Ready Sunshine?" I asked and she furrowed her eyebrows.

"Why do you call me that?" I chuckled and opened the door for her then got into the driver side of the car.

"Because that's what you are. You're my sunshine. You light up my life, you make everything better." Her jaw dropped then she smiled. "I-" I was cut off by someone knocking on my window. "No," I growled out as soon as I saw who was the culprit. "What do you want?" I huffed out then rolled the window down.

"We're racing!" Everett laughed and patted my back. "Who's the girl?" He licked his lips and smirked at Devina.

"How many people are going to check her out today!?" I growled and Everett dryly laughed again.

"It's not our fault you brought a girl here." Devina looked down at her hands and I glanced back at Everett. "Well, this just makes things more interesting."

"What?" Devina finally asked and Everett smiled.

"If I win. You have to go out on a date with me." Everett explained and I clenched my fists.

"No way." I protested but Everett wasn't going to give up this easily.

"And if you win, you get her all to yourself." I violently shook my head. "What's the problem? Afraid you'll loose?" He taunted and I chuckled.

"You know what? Fine. Deal." And we shook hands.

"Good luck with that one!" She yelled back and I smiled. I had to win this race. My girl was on the line.

~Devina's POV~

Zane pulled up next to Everett and revved his engine. Everett did the same and winked at me.

"I swear to god Zane if you don't win this I will never talk to you again." Zane snapped his head towards me and flinched back.

"You're joking, right?" I narrowed my eyes and he took a deep breath. "I'm going to win Sunshine. I promise." I shook my head and looked at the start line. I didn't know where the end was and that made me a little nervous.

"Don't make promises you can't keep," I whispered but with werewolf hearing, he obviously heard it. With a fire of a pistol, the race was on. Zane sped off and Everett did the same.

"Shit," Zane mumbled as soon as Everett pulled out in front of him. "Sunshine there's a helmet somewhere towards the back, can you put it on?" I wiped the sweat from my palms and looked around for the helmet. Once I found it, I put it on and looked over at Zane. "Cute." He smiled as he saw the helmet.

"What's going on Zane?" I asked when I noticed how tense he was.

"He upgraded his engine." I took a deep breath, not entirely sure what that meant, but I did know that it wasn't a good thing. "And he never plays nicely. So hold on tight Sunshine." Zane jerked to the left and bypassed Everett, now in the lead I watched the speedometer quickly rise from one hundred to one hundred and fifty to two hundred. It was getting harder for me to stay calm when I felt something bump the car, making it slide to the right a little. "Shit." I snapped my head over to the side and saw Everett trying to drive us off the deserted road. Zane sped up a little but so did Everett. I glanced over and Everett blew me another kiss. I wish I could yank it out of the air and throw it in the trash. "Distract me so I don't stop this car and kill him." Zane gritted out and I laughed.
