She Can't Be Your Mate novel Chapter 22

"Devina, I'm so sorry- I- she didn't mean anything to me I was just upset about Mika touching you like that and I-" I cut him off and scoffed.

"I didn't kiss him, Zane." I hissed and tried to walk away but he grabbed my arm.

"I know. I'm sorry." I pulled my arm back away from him.

"It's not like we're together." I pointed out and he frowned. "I can be with whoever I want." I pointed out and he growled. Like literally growled.

"No, you can't." I was bubbling over with rage.

"That's just what you were doing Zane!" I yelled and he pulled me outside. "Let go of me!" I yelled and he finally did once we were outside. "I'm going to go find Everett, to make sure he's okay." I narrowed my eyes and turned to walk away but Zane grabbed my wrist and pulled me back.

"No, you aren't." He growled out again and I smacked his hand away from me.

"Yes, I am. And don't touch me. I don't want to get an STD after she was all over you." He laughed. He laughed.

"Are you jealous?" He smirked and I did something I thought I'd never do twice. I smacked him. Again.

"Woah, is everything alright here?" Everett ran up to us and stepped in between me and Zane.

"Yeah. I was just looking for you actually." I pulled his arm so he'd turn around and he smirked. "Are you alright?"

"I am now." He stepped closer and I internally cringed.

"God Devina. Are you really trying to make me jealous?" Zane piped up and laughed. "Because it's not working." I stepped around Everett and glared at Zane.

"I'm just making sure he wasn't injured after you made him crash into a tree!" I dryly laughed and he shook his head.

"No, you're right. I'm a jerk." She pulled away from me and scooted back on the bed. Away from me. "I'm-I'm giving you whiplash." I tried to hold her hand and comfort her but she pulled away again, making me angry.

"No just stop pushing me away Devina." She slowly looked up and met my gaze. Her blue eyes held so much hurt and pain as they filled with tears.

"I can't." She whispered. "I can't get hurt. Not again." Another stray tear fell and I crawled over to her and wiped it away with my thumb. Again? I cringed at the thought of her being with other guys like this. Or like anything.

"If you just let me in I promise I won't hurt you." She looked away again which killed me inside. "I was going to kiss you earlier today. When I had just won the race?" She snapped her eyes back to mine and I smiled. "I wanted to so badly." I still wasn't sure how she felt about that, but the fact that when I said wanted she frowned made me a little more confident.

"But you didn't." She pointed out and I caressed her cheek.

"Have you ever been kissed before?" I asked and I could barely see her cheeks flush. She shook her head and I grinned. "Then I want to make it special for you. It's your first time. I didn't just want it to happen because we got caught up in the moment. I want you to remember it forever, no matter what happens." She softly smiled. "I want to do it the normal way, take you out to dinner, talk to you about stupid things like what your favorite class is or what your favorite food is, then drive you back home and kiss you on the front porch. Or plan something big and wait for the perfect moment." I smiled too when I thought about her lips on mine.
