She Can't Be Your Mate novel Chapter 38

"Good luck kiddo." His hand moved to my head and ruffled my hair, I swatted his big hand away and whined.

"Really? I spent-" I thought about this and laughed. "Thirty seconds on that!" He joined in on my laughed and lead us all outside. For a split second I thought I saw Zane up in his bedroom window looking down but as soon as I turned my head, I couldn't see anything but the faint sway of the curtains. I sighed and looked back at my new group of friends.

"Let's goooooo!" Gillie whined making both me and Henry laugh. She was like the mother of the group, she's always making sure everyone is happy. She's what I'm supposed to be like with the pack if Zane doesn't reject me, that is. And almost as if he heard his previous name in my thoughts, he walked out of his house, shutting and locking the door behind him. I couldn't look away from him. Not when he had a backpack slung over his left shoulder and a pillow resting in his strong arms. He stopped walking and locked gazes with me. I couldn't help myself, I started to walk towards him but Dylan held me back.

"Dev," He warned as I tried to escape his hold.

"Where's he going?" I turned back towards Zane and saw he was glaring at Dylan. He opened his mouth to say something, but then quickly shut it and hopped into his Audi R8. In blue. The one he bought to impress me.

"We're going to be late." Gillie softly said and tugged on my sweatshirt sleeve. I nodded, watching as he back out of his driveway and turned left. Out of the pack city. "Okay, to survive here next few months you need to know who to stay away from. Take notes. Vanessa Fields, Rebecca Gavin's and the jock flock. You can tell who's in the jock flock just by looking at them, they're arrogant jocks who just want to get in your pants. So keep your legs shut." She giggled making me blush.

"Alright." Was all I replied. Henry and Gillie walked me to the front office but then scurried off to class. "Hi, I'm Devina Stavros? I need to pick up my schedule." The secretary quickly looked up and jumped.

"Oh, my! Luna! Welcome!" She practically screeched. I shyly looked around, making sure no one else was around. "When Alpha called I was so ecstatic! Our Luna, in this school! Wow." I immediately shook my head and frowned.

"Please don't call me that, it's just Devina. I don't really want word getting around about-you know." She raised her drawn on eyebrows and nodded.

"Of course. I understand." She reached into a filing cabinet and dug around for my schedule. "Gossip." She rolled her eyes and pulled out a small piece of paper. "Here you are. Math first period. Geesh, you have fun with that." I laughed and took the paper from her offering hands.

"Hey." He grinned and I politely smiled. "I'm Ben." He glanced down past my eyes and towards my chest. After mentally barfing, I rolled my eyes and pulled out my book. Good luck trying to talk to me now, Buddy.

After four periods of math, science, Spanish and English-in that order- it was finally time for lunch.

"Hey," The same guy pulled me back and smirked. "I noticed you were human, want me to show you some cool things we wolves can do?" He wiggles his eyebrows and I snatched my arm back. "We're really good at certain physical activities."

"Too bad I don't do physical activities." I tried to walk past him but he grabbed my arm again. "Look Burt, or whatever your name is, I'm not interested in you." He stepped back again and scoffed.

"You'll regret that Stavros." And with that he walked away, leaving me alone in the deserted hallway. I was more confused by his words. I never said my last name.
