"I had a husband. We loved each other. We were married for almost twenty years."
"What happened?" I couldn't stop myself from asking, I guess I'm a pretty curious person.
"He was hit. By a drunk driver."
"So was my best friend." It's an amazing feeling to relate to someone on such a high level. They may not fully understand you and you may not fully understand them, but you try your best because you know what they've gone through. You know how it feels.
"You're so young and yet you've felt and experienced so many things. Too many." She finally spoke making me looked up and meet her soft grey eyes.
"You can't change the past," I whispered back.
"But you can change how it shapes your future."
~Zane's POV~
Deep down inside, I didn't want to be there with April but something was forcing me to stay. To be with her instead of Devina. It was like a coma, I could hear everything and most of the time see things but I wasn't in control. My perception of time wasn't valid anymore, maybe years have passed. April giggled as she lead us upstairs to the bedroom. My body smiled but my soul cringed. As we made it to the room, she jumped onto the bed.
"Zanie," She sang as she saw I wasn't moving forward. "Zane!" She yelled. "Get over here!" I stumbled forward, not able to control my legs anymore but once my bare feet stepped on a small piece of paper, I froze. I reached down to pick it up and read the two words etched in Devina's handwriting.
You promised.
Right then and there, with the paper still in my hand, I snapped out of it. I no longer felt compelled to follow Aprils orders or stay here with her. In fact, the only thing I felt compelled to do was to kill her.
"Fuck!" I screamed, smashing my hands on the steering wheel.
~Devina's POV~
"Devin!" I heard Gwen call from downstairs. I moaned and rolled over onto my stomach. "You better be up!" I mumbled an "I am" but I highly doubt she heard me. Then my door opened and Gwen laughed.
"Come on Devin. It's your last day of high school!" This caught my attention. It's been almost a year since Gwen decided to officially adopt me. A few months after the system took me in, my mom committed suicide in jail. It hurt knowing that my only known family member wasn't here anymore, but was she ever even here in the first place? It took many therapy sessions and a long battle with my own head, but I finally forgave her for everything she did. Deep down inside, I know she wasn't all there. Something wasn't right in her head and I couldn't blame her entirely. What she did wasn't right but, I forgive her. "I also got something for you." I laughed and sat up. This is how Gwen is, always making sure I feel loved and welcome. From the first night I stayed with her, we bonded. We spent pretty much that whole night just talking about our pasts, she doesn't know about the whole werewolf thing but it's not my secret to tell.
"You didn't have to spend your money on me." Gwen pulled me into her chest and kissed the top of my head, stroking my long blonde hair. Then she pulled me out of bed and lead me outside. "What is this?" I slowly asked as I saw what was sitting in our driveway.
