Chapter 127
Upon her utterance, Sebastian’s countenance abruptly chilled.
I declared. “I’m going to heal you. No more rejections!”
He pulled the quilt over her, covering her with it, his face cold. Then, sitting next to her, he picked up the report.
His thick, long eyelashes hung low, obscuring his large, dark peach blossom eyes, making it difficult to discern the emotion hidden within.
A faint trace of uneasiness was visible between his tightly knitted brows, though it was so shallow that one would not notice it unless they looked closely.
Scarlett was unable to penetrate his emotional control, so she gave up trying to guess and simply lay on her side obediently.
It seemed that in these five years, they had rarely been together in such a peaceful manner. He had never been by her side. like this before.
Scarlett would often ponder what place she held in Sebastian’s heart.
If it was only a substitute, why did he keep coming back to find her after they had parted?
He snatched her away from Dev right in front of everyone.
Had they been apart for such a long time, could it be that his mental disorder was making him feel uneasy?
Or deep down, he had a fondness for her?
She dared not utter the word “love,” for with someone like Sebastian, she would never easily succumb to it.
The phone’s vibration interrupted her thoughts, which were full of musings.
Sebastian retrieved his personal phone and, glancing at the number, answered it.
“Mr. Jackman.”
Leo’s voice, respectful in tone, came from the other end.
“The surveillance has been taken care of. Nobody else will be aware of Miss Sales‘ presence.”
“Furthermore, after you departed with Miss Sales yesterday, Dev suddenly fainted. I had no other option but to take him to the city hospital.”
Sebastian replied with an indifferent “un.” “Did he wake up?”
Leo replied, “He just woke up and kept demanding to see Miss Sales. You see…”
Sebastian coldly interrupted, “No.”
Leo was a bit abashed. “Mr. Jackman, he’s the head honcho of Gatsby Group. Now, Gatsby Group’s personnel have been searching for me. I can’t always dispatch people to incarcerate him…”
Leo meant that he could withstand the pressure for some time, but not indefinitely.
Sebastian paused for a few moments, his expression unreadable, before finally uttering. “Let him go.”
He hung up the phone and, turning to Scarlett, he saw her sizing him up.
Scarlett had already guessed whom he was referring to, so she refrained from asking.
If he was willing to release Dev, it would be alright. Once she had regained her strength, she would go and express her gratitude to Dev once more.
Sebastian stared at the drip for a long time, not moving until all the liquid in the bottle had been emptied, then helping her remove the needle.
Scarlett gazed at the three medicine bottles lined up beside her, one after the other.
Sebastian withdrew the needle from her, not wanting her to lose the liquid.
Sebastian, his eyes full of certainty, suddenly lifted her quilt and swept her up from the bed.
Scarlett gazed at the side of his face in a trance. “Where ya headed?”
