“If we have offended her, I fear we won’t have a pleasant time in the future…” 

Scarlett didn’t care, she knew she could still find Mr. Jackman to protect her, but nonetheless, she was unconcerned. 

Lanny was afraid of what would happen if Susy discovered her relationship with Mr. Jackman. 

Lanny was too afraid to contemplate it, her mind overwhelmed with the thought of being tortured to death. 

When Scarlett saw Lanny’s frightened look, she felt very remorseful. “Dr. Richard, I apologize. I implicated you.” 

Lanny shook her head lightly “I don’t hold it against you. Susy was the one who was too pushy.” 

Afraid that Scarlett would feel too guilty, Lanny comforted her instead, “Don’t worry. I’ll go see Mr. Jackman later. He’ll look 

out for us.” 

Scarlet helplessly smiled. She had been so heartless to Sebastian, he must have hated her deeply. How could he possibly protect her? 

Lanny still wanted to say something, but before she could, a few policemen came over and inquired as to what had just transpired. 

Lanny stated that the medical dispute had been resolved, thus leaving the police with no other option but to issue a brief statement and depart. 

After they departed. Lanny recalled that she was going to acquire the medicine for Scarlett and quickly uttered to her, “Come on, Ill get the medication for you.” 

Scarlett, despite seeing her swollen face, still wanted to get the medicine for herself, her heart warming. 

“Dr. Richard, Im going to fetch the nurse to get some medication to reduce swelling and discomfort. I’ll be right back.” 

After she finished speaking, Lanny smiled as she watched her go straight to the clinic. But as she turned to go back to the director’s room, she bumped into someone. 

Scarlett asked the nurse for some medicine to alleviate swelling and pain before she returned. 

Pushing open the door to the director’s room, Scarlett was stunned to see Yan leaning Lanny against the wall. She quickly retreated. 

Sitting down on the chair outside, she propped up her chin, her mind spinning wildly as she tried to comprehend the relationship between them. 

The instant Lanny saw Scarlett, she recoiled and shoved Yan away. 

“Keep your distance from me!” 

After being pushed away, Yan tidied up her disheveled clothes, all the while keeping her gaze fixed on Lanny 

“Does it hurt?” 

He went up to Lanny and gently touched her swollen face, asking if it hurt, but with a hint of mockery in his eyes. 

“I assumed you had the capacity to break away from the Baber family. I didn’t anticipate you to be connected to Sebastian. However, the cost is too steep 

Lanny was incensed, not at his laughter, but at the sight of her in such a sorry condition 

Clenching her fists, she reinained silent, yet her beautiful eyes betrayed a stubbornness that would not accept defeat. 

Yan released her and leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest as he scrutinized her. 

At eighteen, she left the Baber family and, after so many years, her beauty had only grown. 

He couldn’t resist pressing her against the wall once more. Lowering his head, he savored the taste of her wet, red lips. 

He had been searching for her for many years, and upon her return to the country, he had visited her multiple times yet never mustered the courage to approach her. 

Had he not recently been informed by Susy that she was employed by Sebastian, he likely would not have shown up. 

The Jackman family and Baber family had an eternal enmity.
