Millie followed them into the room and heard a prison guard urging the doctor, ‘This prisoner is important. You have to save him.”
The prison guard then made a phone call, saying, “Yes, it’s 2823. He’s the main culprit in Winston Greer’s kidnapping case.”
Millie glanced at the prison guard before making her way into the emergency room. Inside, she saw a man with a pallid complexion, foaming at the mouth and looking weak.
She couldn’t help but wonder if he had been poisoned while in prison. Millie was startled by the thought and wondered whether Winston was responsible.
Millie couldn’t help but remember the horrifying memory where the kidnapper tied her up and weighed her down with a rock before throwing her into the sea. It sent a shiver down her spine, causing her whole body to tremble involuntarily.
Instinctively, she reached to touch the wound on her back, and a sudden surge of pain shot through her. The pain was unbearable, making Millie extremely uncomfortable.
As she left the emergency department, she noticed the overcast sky, suggesting it might rain soon, She gently rubbed her shoulder, trying to ease the discomfort. As she prepared to head to the inpatient department, she spotted someone who looked like Joanna leaving in a hurry.
In the evening. Millie massaged her wrists as Hazel said, “Dr. Caldwell, it’s time to wrap up for the day. See you tomorrow.”
Millie nodded in response.
As she exited the inpatient department building, she caught sight of Winston stepping out of his black Cullinan. He was neatly dressed in a white shirt and a black tie.
Holding a cell phone between his ear and shoulder, he was engaged in conversation. Then, he retrieved a bouquet from the car and slammed the door shut.
He ended the call and was about to put the phone away when he glanced up and saw Millie’s clear, indifferent eyes fixed on him.
Her hair was casually tied back, and she wore a simple white dress. She seemed distant, unlike the Millie he used to know. This version of Millie felt unfamiliar to him.
“Win!” Joanna called out from behind her.
He looked past Millie and fixed his eyes on Joanna. She was delicately dressed, with her black hair cascading down. The radiance of her face stood in striking contrast to Millie’s.
Millie turned her head and saw Joanna walking toward Winston, ready to throw herself into his arms. Winston gently placed his hand on her shoulder and handed her the flowers.
Joanna paused and glanced at him, wondering why he didn’t allow her to hug him. Was it because Millie was present?

a special request for Winston to pick her up after work. Even if he refused to let her hug him, she was determined to do it in front of Millie.
“Wow, these tulips are absolutely stunning! Thank you so much, Win. I love it,” Joanna said as she hugged Winston with the bouquet between them.
Winston’s expression darkened, and his eyes unconsciously landed on Millie.
