“What the hell were you thinking? Harper is your cousin and this is her big day, And all you have to give is a watch that’s worth only a little more than a hundred?” Carmen was so furious that she lifted the gift box and was ready to throw it at Alex. 

“Don’t say that I didn’t warn you beforehand. If you break it, you’ll have to get another one yourself,” scoffed Alex. 

Knowing that she would not have the time to do that, Carmen had no choice but to lower the gift box. She was still raging, however. 

“How are you not ashamed of yourself for gifting a watch that cheap? You’re a good–for–nothing and I just don’t understand why my sister still keeps you around.” Lucas shook his head in disgust. 

A decent job was recently assigned to Lucas by Heather, which only served to make him even haughtier. 

“What are you yapping on about? What don’t you get her something yourself if you want to give something expensive so badly?” Alex glared at Lucas after realizing how much bolder Lucas was getting at speaking out against him. 

After Alex’s response, Lucas stopped talking but Carmen gave him another scoff before humbly presenting the watch, “My dear sister–in–law, this is a little something from us.” 

“What’s in the gift box, Aunt Carmen? It looks exquisite,” commented Jacob playfully. 

“Oh, I have no idea myself. Alex is the one who got the gift,” responded Carmen. 

“Let’s see.” Harper grabbed the box and immediately opened it in front of everybody. 

“A cheap watch?” 

Everybody else was also surprised at the sight of the watch as Harper angrily smashed it onto the ground, “What’s the meaning of this, Aunt Carmen? Are you trying to insinuate something by giving me this cheap watch on my big day?”
