Chapter 384 Jayden

“Don’t you know men and women are both equal in today’s society? If women like you can live off their boyfriends, why can’t my sis support Alex?” Seeing how Alex was insulted by Lily, Rose immediately leaped to his defense.
In her opinion, he wasn’t living off a woman because he had a sizeable salary of his own. He truly must love Heather because he chose to live with the Jennings family.
If one loved someone, one would do anything in the world for them?
Since Alex was in love with Heather, it wasn’t strange for him to be a part of the Jennings family, even if he had to bear the derogatory term of being a man who depended on a woman.
A self–assured man like him wouldn’t bother with such insults.
“Who did you say is living off her man? Come on, say it again!” Lily yelped with indignation like an angry Chihuahua.
“Why would you be so agitated if you aren’t living off a man? Aren’t you exposing yourself right now?” Rose laughed mockingly.
Noticing how Jayden would not defend Lily, the worry in Rose dissipated.
Lily was enraged. She had no idea Rose had such a wicked tongue. Unwilling to humiliate herself further, Lily had no choice but to give up.
“Come on, let’s just drink.” Dylan hastily changed the subject by raising his glass in a toast to everyone. Originally, he had only invited Alex out for drinks to feel the latter out before deciding if he should join Four Seas Corporation. If not, he could sell the porcelain vase gifted to him by Alex for some cash.
He didn’t expect to meet Landon and Whitney on the way. Worse, they both insisted on coming along. At that time, Dylan thought Alex probably wouldn’t mind. After all, they used to be classmates.
However, Whitney had invited the snobbish Lily along? Worst of all, Lily’s boyfriend was a gang member, which really made the whole atmosphere extremely tense.
Dylan sneaked a glance at Alex. He was relieved when his friend seemed completely unperturbed.
After everyone had a drink, Jayden toasted Rose again. “Gorgeous Rose, I toasted you once before, but all you drank was a glass of tea. Shouldn’t you show me some respect this time?” He poured a round for Rose, nudging it calculatingly in front of her.
Flustered, Rose shook her head hurriedly. “Sorry, I really don’t drink.”
“Gorgeous Rose, don’t you know respect goes both ways? I’m an important man with hundreds of people at my beck and call. Are you really gonna insult me like this?”
Rose’s heart stuttered with fear, Jayden’s tone was both boastful and sinister. What could she, a dewy–eyed girl, do to defuse this tension?
Subconsciously, she gripped Alex’s arm, at a loss at what to do.
“Just let it go. I’ll take her place since she can’t drink,” Alex offered.

Jayden’s expression darkened. He spat scornfully, “Who the hell do you think you are? Why on earth would I want to drink with you?”
