Chapter 832 Compensation
In Carmen’s perspective, Maggie’s attraction to someone as useless as Alex was proof that she was all style and no substance.
On top of that, Alex had just slapped her, which Carmen found unacceptable considering it was in defense of a homewrecker.
Feeling aggrieved, she resorted to playing the victim. She sat on the floor and cried, “This is absurd! My live-in son-in-law cheated on his wife, divorced her, and had the audacity to slap me. He’s such a jerk?”
However, Carmen’s dramatic actions would have carried more weight if she were making a scene in public. Being in the comfort of her own home with no outsiders around rendered her acts futile.
Alex simply stared at her coldly until she was finished before turning toward Heather’s room. “I will take my leave as I have other matters to attend to for the remainder of the day. I will see you tomorrow at ten in the morning at the Civil Affairs Bureau to settle the divorce procedure.”
Just as he was about to leave, Lucas hurried over to intercept them. “Alex, are you going to walk away just like that? That woman has caused irreparable damage to my manhood. Shouldn’t I be compensated for that?”
“Compensate? What kind of compensation are you looking for? I’ll give it to you!” Flynn seized Lucas by the collar, his voice filled with fury and intensity.
As the feared king of the underworld in Nebula City, Flynn exuded an aura of terror. His amiable demeanor was a rarity, reserved only for his interactions with Alex.
He had no intention of going easy on someone like Lucas, who was fond of making baseless accusations.
Lucas was immediately subdued as Flynn raised him by the collar. Fearing Flynn’s wrath, Lucas quickly admitted his mistake. “I-I’m sorry. Let’s forget about the compensation. I don’t want anything anymore.”
Flynn sneered, realizing that Lucas was nothing more than a spineless individual who could be easily frightened.
“That’s better.” Flynn released his grip and dropped Lucas to the ground.
Alex made his way to Stanley’s room to check on him. He was taken aback to find Stanley crouched in the corner when he opened the door. His head was buried between his knees, and he was trembling and. sobbing.
Alex was stunned. He wondered how long Stanley had been awake and how much he had overheard.
From his distressed state, it was clear that he had heard enough to deeply upset him.
He pulled Stanley into a tight embrace and gently wiped away his tears. “Stanley, what did you hear?” he asked gently.
“Daddy, are you and Mommy getting a divorce? Will I never see Mommy again? Does that mean I don’t have a mommy anymore?” Tears streamed down Stanley’s face as he spoke.
Alex held him close, his heart breaking at the realization of how deeply their divorce was impacting their son. If it were up to him, he wouldn’t want to end the marriage, but circumstances had forced their hand.
He couldn’t sustain a broken relationship any longer.
“Stanley, you will be staying with me from now on. I will never abandon you. If you miss Mommy, I will take you to see her. Everything will remain the same,” Alex reassured him.
It was all he could do at that moment. There was nothing else he could do as Heather’s feelings had changed.
As Alex, Stanley, Flynn, and Maggie departed, Lucas made no attempt to stop them.
