Sean did not follow along as he had to make a trip back to the medical lab.
However, Nell did not mind. After all, the sole reason for her visit was to spend time with Cathy.
The driver this time was a live-in chauffeur at the chateau and not Kremer — the driver they had the other day.
Cathy looked extremely excited when they were on their way to the town. After she introduced the monuments to them, she started to tell Nell about the daily happenings at home.
Nell could tell that her mother was very happy.
Was she happy because she had finally accepted Nell into her life? Or was she just reminiscing the past?
Whatever it was, Nell could feel the barrier between them slowly disappear.
She even got back the feeling she had when she was at Jincheng.
It was mid-afternoon when the group felt tired from sightseeing, and since it was already noon, they chose to dine in at the biggest restaurant they could find in town.
Situated in a hotel, the building was painted in white. As they walked in, the workers in the restaurant instantly recognized Cathy and they greeted her with respect.
Seemingly embarrassed by this, she lowered her head and whispered to Nell, “Uncle Sean has quite the reputation here. People just greet me that way when they see me around. It’s funny that they still remember me since I’m always cooped up at home.”
Laughing, Nell said, “After exploring the neighborhood, I noticed that the locals here are not extravagant at all. They are nice to be around and I’m glad that you get to live in such a nice place. ”
Cathy let out a sigh. “Thank god Sean saved me back then. I won’t be here today if not for him.”
Nell nodded her head.
Smiling, Cathy then said, “Let’s change the topic. I’ll bring you guys around to try some local cuisines today since the ones we usually make at home are all fusion foods. If you like how the original recipes taste like, I’ll get the chefs to prepare your food that way.”
With that, the group went in and started to find a table.
Since they arrived late, all the private rooms were full and they had to dine at a public spot.
However, they did not mind it at all and they found a nice table by the window to sit down.
When everyone was seated, Cathy started to order the food, and while waiting to be served, the group talked to each other as they drank some tea.
At this moment, they overheard the customers from the other table talk about something.
They were rather loud so their conversation could be heard clearly from where they sat.
“Hey, did you hear? There will be a performance at the theater tonight.”
“What’s new? Hasn’t there always been performances there?”
“The one tonight is different from the past. The Dream Voice will be performing their play, the Fairy Biography today. If you’re a fan of musicals you would know they only perform once in a few years. If you missed it today, you might not have the chance to see it anymore.”
“Really? Then we better get our tickets after this.”
Curiosity crept up Nell’s chest as she saw how excited they were.
She turned to look at Cathy. “Mom, what is the performance they’re talking about?”
Cathy laughed and replied, “You mean that one? Legend says that once upon a time before civilization lay on this land, a huge magical rock fell from the sky and landed right on the desert by our feet. With its magical powers, the rock absorbed the best of nature and slowly transformed into a beautiful fairy.
“The fairy was kind-hearted and when she saw the people around her were dying of thirst, she cried. As tears streaked down her cheeks, it formed a river. She knew that the river would quickly become contaminated by sand without any trees around it and that the river would dry up under the hot sun. Hence, she cut off her hair and as it touched the ground, it grew into trees.
