Only when she finished the bowl of medicine did Gregory call a maid over to retrieve the bowl.
He sat beside Vickie and looked at her, asking, “How much of the past few weeks do you remember?”
Vickie’s face paled at that.
She looked at Gregory, her bright eyes filled with confusion.
Gregory’s eyes darkened.
From her expression alone he knew that she probably did not remember much at all.
It was rather strange. During her time in captivity, she was just locked up in there. It did not seem like anyone came to regularly check on her.
According to her, they never tortured her or interrogated her.
Other than that, she could not think of anything else during that time.
She had no idea why this was the case. Gregory was not aware of what she experienced the whole time, let alone why she could not remember.
He had not told anyone about this issue yet, not even Gideon and Nell.
Plus, there was another crucial thing.
Gregory was not sure why either. Vickie was clearly safe at home now, and she was still the same Vickie. She did not look any different.
However, he could not shake the feeling that the current Vickie was somewhat different from the previous Vickie.
It was not some sort of weird plot twist or him reading too much into it, but he could tell from her eyes and her demeanor.
He kept it to himself in worry that people would blow it out of proportion since it was just a feeling. It did not prove anything, and he might just be overthinking it.
Even if he was certain that Vickie had experienced something while she was unconscious, he said nothing.
With that, he reassured her and said, “It’s nothing. Don't think too much.”
Vickie just nodded, a bit confused.
Gregory stayed with her for a while after reassuring her.
She soon started feeling sleepy, likely due to the lingering aftereffects of the medication.
He stayed with her as she lay down, and before long, she fell asleep again.
Only then did Gregory quietly leave the room.
Downstairs, Nell and Gideon were in the garden having morning tea.
Everyone was so much more relaxed with Vickie home safely. Naturally, the tense atmosphere also dissipated.
As for the Chinese Association… They could wait.
They had been assaulted mercilessly on multiple fronts and pushed to the brink. Not a lot of force was needed to bring them down.
The target right now was the Flinders.
If their predictions were correct and this was all part of the Flinders’ grand scheme, then the collapse of the Chinese Association was not the end. It would only be the beginning.
The real battle would start after that.
No matter, it was still early and there was no rush.
The couple saw Gregory walking toward them.
Nell waved to him and spoke, “Not accompanying little V anymore?”
