How could she disregard her status and slap me in front of everyone?
“M-Mrs. Luther, I was simply helping you to teach that bastard child, Bailey, a lesson. Why did you hit me?”
Felicity's gaze turned cold. Her sharp gaze swept across the room, and she growled, “Whose family is this brat from? Take her away now and discipline her properly! What? Do you want me to discipline her in front of everyone?”
Just then, a middle-aged woman squeezed herself out of the crowd.
She rushed over to the young woman and gave her two fierce slaps on her arm. “You stupid girl! Who asked you to be so disrespectful toward Mrs. Luther? Do you have a death wish?”
A flabbergasted look appeared on the young woman's face. With a trembling voice, she said, “Didn't you ask me to—”
“Shut your mouth!” The middle-aged woman threw a fierce glare at her daughter before hurriedly explaining with a smile, “Mrs. Luther, my daughter is just a naive girl. Please forgive my ignorant daughter for causing you trouble.”
Felicity gave her the cold shoulder. With her icy gaze surveying the room, she announced in a deep voice, “I don't care about Bailey's background or how terrible her reputation is. She will soon become the daughter-in-law of the Luther family, and this means that she's a member of the Luther family. Anyone who humiliates her is equivalent to humiliating the Luther family. I won't let anyone who threatens the benefits of our family off the hook.”
No one dared to question her after her words fell, for she was well respected in upper-class society.
The crowd exchanged glances with each other. They all thought this was a dramatic turn of events.
Felicity used to be enraged whenever Artemis defended Bailey. Logically, she should be extremely dissatisfied with the woman. However, now that Artemis had made the decision to kick Bailey out of the Luther family and find a new lover, not only is Felicity not holding a party to celebrate the occasion, but she's adamantly defending Bailey in front of everyone from the upper-class society.
The crowd was perplexed by Felicity's sudden change in attitude.
Bailey glanced at Felicity with a look of amusement, and her eyes flashed with a touch of appreciation.
Although Mrs. Luther is a little difficult, she will undoubtedly take my side once I gain her acknowledgment. After all, the same applies to Rhonda back then. She forgave Rhonda no matter how many mistakes she had made. She even taught Rhonda how to catch Artemis' attention. Even though she was completely let down when Rhonda's utterly despicable wrongdoings came to light, she still didn't make things difficult for the latter. Hence, Mrs. Luther is actually a good person but with a tough character.
Bailey uttered, “I'm used to it. You shouldn't have stood up for me. I can't afford to tarnish your long-established reputation.”
Felicity whipped her head around to throw a glare in Bailey's direction. “That's fine too. But you have to promise me not to marry my son first.”
Uh...
Freya chuckled. “Bay, your mother-in-law's temperament has always been like this. You should be more considerate since she's your elder. Since you're fine now, why don't you come and have a walk with us?”
