For example, we could go to Bailey Jefferson.
Even though Zoey didn't say that out loud, she hoped her suggestion would be enough to steer Waverly toward Bailey.
If Bailey agrees to treat Shirley and fails, this old hag, Waverly, will hate her with a vengeance. If Bailey declines the request and lets Shirley miscarry, Waverly will hate her even more! In any case, Bailey will be caught between a rock and a hard place. That's my goal!
Waverly narrowed her eyes in confusion. “Other solutions? What other solutions can there be? These doctors have decades of clinical experience and are experts in their respective fields, but not even they can save my grandchild. Who else can I turn to?”
“Bailey Jefferson,” Zoey replied with a chuckle. “She's the legendary doctor, Anonymous. Wouldn't she be able to save Shirley's baby?”
For a moment, Waverly was stunned. However, as the realization gradually sank in, she felt a glimmer of happiness.
Oh, yes! How could I have forgotten about Bailey?
She's Anonymous, the famous doctor who pulled Old Mr. Chivers back from the brink of death. Saving a baby would be a piece of cake for her, wouldn't it?
“I'll make a trip to the medical base now. You guys better watch over Shirley and ensure nothing happens to her in the next hour. Otherwise, you can all get out of my sight!”
“Y-Yes.”
Meanwhile, in the infirmary at the Revelle residence, Veronique was leaning against the headboard and smiling at the pensive Justin. “A penny for your thoughts? Care to share?”
After a brief silence, Justin went on to tell Veronique about the plan his mother and Tamara had concocted.
Veronique's smile gradually faded.
Gosh. Why haven't they given up? Why do they still want to plot against Justin? Then again, this isn't entirely bad. After all, I understand how Mrs. Xuereb feels. She's worried that her son might leave with me, so she's doing everything to keep him back. Come to think of it... I'd probably do the same thing if I were in her shoes.
Justin, who knew Veronique only too well, immediately caught on to what she was thinking and grew sullen.
“What's on your mind, Veronique? Is our relationship only good for worrying about these matters?”
Veronique couldn't help but let out a wry chuckle and sigh. “It's inevitable to overthink things. Don't take it to heart. Besides, I was only letting my thoughts wander. I won't act on them.”
“Didn't we agree to live every day in joy? We'll let fate decide what happens in the future,” Justin muttered as he gently caressed the woman's pale face.
“Justin, can you take me out to see the world?” Veronique asked tentatively after a moment of silence. “I don't want to be stuck in this tiny space. There are still so many places I've never been to.”
Justin furrowed his brows.
He was acutely aware that Veronique's current best treatment was to get lots of bed rest, as overexertion would only accelerate the spread of cancer cells.
However, she had such an expectant look that he couldn't bring himself to reject her.
Moments later, he finally took a deep breath, seemingly having made up his mind. “Where do you want to go?”
Veronique instantly broke into a smile. “Lusterg. The city is an art lover's mecca. Taking in the vibrant art scene of such a beautiful and quaint city would be good for the soul.”
Justin heaved a sigh of relief.
Well, I suppose domestic travel might be doable.
“All right. Let me talk to your father. If he gives us the green light, I'll take you there.”
