Chapter 658 Compromise
Juliana had no idea what else she had left that they could use to threaten her.
Don't tell me this old geezer thinks that he can get me to relent if he threatens me with my life. At this point, I have nothing to lose.
She had lost all her faith in the world as well as her courage to continue living. Death seemed to be her only way out.
It would be pretty hilarious if Quincy was actually planning to threaten her with her life.
In fact, she couldn't wait to die. She might even thank him if he shot her then and there. It was therefore inevitable that their plan to threaten Juliana would fail.
She would never make that call to Zeke because she couldn't afford to bear the mortification.
Since this was the last ounce of dignity she had left, she did not want to lose that, too.
She was the one who forced the incident that night to happen, and now that the child was gone, she was too ashamed to call him.
Seeing how she was unfazed by the current situation and had lost the will to live, Quincy frowned grimly and asked in a deep voice, “Are you sure you're not making that call?”
Gradually, Juliana closed her eyes and said nonchalantly, “I'm not going to do anything. You're free to kill or torture me, but there's no way I'm making the call to Zeke, let alone tell him the miscarriage happened because I was careless. You reap what you sow, so you have to bear the consequences of your misdeeds. You'd better pray that the Shurmer family won't pursue this matter, or tragedy will befall the Hoffman family. Mark my words. Once Zeke and my master join forces, they're more than capable of destroying the Hoffman family. I shall witness the punishment you receive from the heavens. Those who harmed my child will pay the price with their lives!”
The veins on Quincy's forehead bulged in surprise, for he didn't expect Juliana to behave so stubbornly. Apparently, she was not the least bit afraid of death.
Quincy reckoned that even if he were to hold a knife against her throat, she would not even bat an eyelid.
This would be a tricky situation for them. From his perspective, there was a high possibility that the Shurmer family would seek revenge. After all, Bailey was involved in this situation, too.
That woman isn't someone who's easy to deal with. No one would be able to stop her if she's determined to come to the Hoffman residence to settle the score!
Hence, after pondering over the matter, Quincy felt the best solution was for Juliana to explain everything herself.
Alas, the woman refused to be convinced, and there was nothing Quincy could do.
After a brief silence, he sneered, “I won't kill you. After all, you're the heiress of the Hoffman family, and Bailey is supporting you as well. I will only bring myself endless trouble if I take your life. However, Huntley is indebted to me since I was the one who raised him. If I told him to die, he would not live to see the next sunrise. Are you going to stand by and watch him put his life on the line for you?”
Juliana's eyes flew open immediately as she looked at Quincy in disbelief.
Her lips quivered gently as she said with a trembling voice, “H-He's one of your men! How can you possibly kill him? There is a good chance that he will become the next head of the family. Don't you think it's a pity to kill him?”
Quincy scoffed, “The Hoffman family is going to face a looming crisis, and there's no telling whether anyone of us will survive. What's the point of considering all that? I'm giving you two choices: Are you going to do nothing and watch Huntley die, or will you call Zeke and inform him that the miscarriage was an accident? It's up to you to decide.”
A bitter smile crept up Juliana's face. Even death is a luxury for someone unlucky. I deserve to die, but I can't just sit back and watch Huntley perish for my sake. I rescued him from danger many years ago, and since then, he has remained by my side, protecting me and taking care of everything for me just to repay my kindness. Can I be selfish enough to drag him down to his doom with me? No! I can't possibly do that.
Therefore, after a moment of silence, she replied in a hoarse voice, “All right, I promise you. I'll give Zeke a call once I feel a bit better. However, you will have to promise one thing too. Let Huntley go and make sure he is safe and sound. If anything happens to him, I will do everything I can to contact my master, and she will avenge me on my behalf. When that time comes, no one from the Hoffman family will be able to escape. Each and every one of them shall pay the price with their lives.”
Quincy remained silent.
His silence was a tacit confirmation that he wouldn't kill Huntley, since the boy was personally raised by Quincy himself and was most likely to become the future head of the family.
Huntly was his pride and joy, so he could never bring himself to destroy the fruit of his own efforts.
Meanwhile, in the study of one of Tarragon's branches, Holden looked at Artemis, who was sitting on the couch, and asked, “Since we will be making our move tomorrow, has Micah arranged for his men to conduct the rescue?”
Artemis hummed in response. “I contacted Dwayne and he will bring his men to save them. One thing you should know is once their plan is exposed, Sofie will surely kill Yvette in order to silence her. If you want to clear your sister's name, you must protect Yvette and prevent her from being murdered.”
Holden nodded and replied grimly, “Thank you. I'll keep that in mind. That woman better not die easily. I will make sure that she pays for everything my sister has suffered.”
Artemis curled his lips into a smile as he said casually, “The few higher-ups who accused your sister of leaking confidential information have been caught. Once everything has been resolved, we'll return to the headquarters and deal with this matter properly.”
After that, he took out a bottle from his pocket and added, “This is the medication that Bailey prepared for you a few days ago. It can help restore a part of your memory. Now that you have a son, you should get your woman back once everything is settled.”
While nodding, Holden reached out and took the bottle. “I'll consume it after tomorrow. I don't want to get caught up in any emotions now because that would distract me.”
Artemis raised a brow and said, “My thoughts exactly. That's why I didn't give it to you right away. All right, then, let's get ready. Our success or failure depends on how well we prepare for this mission.”
“All right.”
Meanwhile, at the medical base, Bailey emerged from the ward and was about to head to the study to look for Zeke.
As soon as she turned the corner, a figure lunged at her.
That person was holding a knife, and the blade flashed a cold glint under the light.
Bailey dodged the attack subconsciously, but the blade still managed to slash her arm.
It was a good thing she was wearing thick clothing since it was winter. Although the knife cut through her clothes and drew blood from her skin, it was only a minor injury.
Bailey reacted immediately by smacking the person on the shoulder.
“I've been kind enough to take you in, yet you're trying to kill me. As expected, one can't be too kind.”
Shirley glowered at Bailey, her eyes filled with intense hatred.
If it weren't for this woman's meddling, the Shurmers would still be kept in the dark, and she wouldn't have made a fool out of herself, causing the Shurmers to regard her with disgust.
Her life was completely ruined by Bailey. At that moment, she was determined to fight Bailey to the death.
“You've been poisoned, Bailey. You're doomed.”
